The text is written by Forbs, on October 26, 2012, and is about how the English language is evolving, from a stage where it is only the privileged that knew how to speak the language, to a stage where it is way more common to speak English. The text tells about how large and powerful countries like China is teaching English because it is a necessary skill to have, if you want succus as a businessman/woman. The text shows many different studies where it has come to light that “Women speak better English than men - in almost every country worldwide”, and that is because of the fact that women are attending college and the humanities classes, witch summed up will result in a better position to succeed in the global economy. A different study is about how “International sectors use English, and local sectors don’t”. And that is all about how big companies like Nokia and SAP uses English as their official language and small retail-stores don’t. The last study is about “European countries speak great English, Asian countries are in the middle and everyone else lags” and is about how good different countries are at English. There are a lot of positive things about the English language as a Lingua Franca. For starters just the fact that people from different countries can speak to each other and understand each other. Because the fact that people can have a conversation with each other and have the chance of making a bond with each other is such a big factor in a world where you can be miles away from each other and still bond because you can speak and understand the same language. Another place where it is very important is in the business world, where large countries are able to speak and discuss deals between countries and have large impacts on the world, only because at least two people in the discussion is able to understand the same language, and then translate for everyone else in the discussion. Another great thing about English is, how kids and young adults are becoming able to communicate in a very young age, and therefore are able to make personal- and business connections before they even think about it, and therefore has a better chance of reaching success. Lærke Hørby Schou 3Xa Frederikshavn handelsskole On the other hand, English is becoming such a popular language that it is beginning to take over the native language around the world. Especially in the Scandinavia, people are using the English language as their primary language, and only their own language when they have to. Another difficulty is that everyone doesn’t have the same brain, and therefore not everyone is even at understanding a different language which can resolve in people feeling that they can’t be in the society because they don’t understand on the same level as everyone else. Therefore, it is important to remember that a secondary language is supposed to be secondary and not primary. The difference between British and American English can end up being a problem, because even though it is spoken the same way, the writing could end up being a problem because of the difference’s, and the chance of misunderstanding comes around, and that can cause problems for people with English as a secondary language because they often only learns one of the two different ways to spell and understand English.
