Name ___________________________________________ 3/11 BACTERIA - WANTED POSTER Procedure: 1. You will work on this in groups of two (unless there is a table of three, students will work together) to research your pathogen! 2. You will have one period to research their disease. Any additional time needed for research or production of the poster is to be done on your own. (Research sheet is on the back) 3. INDIVIDUALLY: You will create and design a most wanted poster based on the research you do on the back. Make sure to follow the project description below. Project Description Checklist: Make a wanted poster for one of the bacterial pathogen you have been given in class. Below is a list of all the pathogens your classmates maybe researching. Poster is to be on 8.5" x 11" paper. Include: ☐ Name of the disease and pathogen. ☐ "Photo" (cartoon-like) – drawn and in COLOR! – label the DNA, cell membrane, and cilia or flagella (if is has it). ☐ Include a background to the “photo” to show its “hide out ” ☐ Organism's m.o. (police jargon) (How the organism attacks and spreads) ☐ Most common victims to prey upon ☐ Hide out of the culprit (where it is most likely to be found) ☐ Most common injury done to victim ☐ Most effective weapons against the germ. ☐ Must be neat and colorful! BACTERIAL DISEASES (CIRCLE ONE) Disease caused by the pathogen Pathogen (bacteria that causes the disease) anthrax Bacillus anthracis Bordetella pertussis Clostridium botulinum whooping cough botulism tetanus diphtheria acute pyelonephritis tularemia or rabbit fever cavities listeriosis tuberculosis food poisoning dysentery cavities cholera plague pneumonia Clostridium tetani Corynebacterium diphtheria Escherichia coli (E. coli) Francisella tularensis Lactobacillus acidophilus Listeria monocytogenes Mycobacterium tuberculosis Salmonella typhimurium Shigella dysenteriae Streptococcus mutans Vibrio cholerae Yersinia pestis Streptococcus pneumoniae 1 GATHERING THE VILLAN’S PROFILE! 1. Name of the criminal (pathogen – bacteria that causes the disease). 2. What disease does it cause? 3. Organism's m.o. (police jargon) (How the organism attacks and spreads?) 4. Most common victims to prey upon. (Whom does the disease commonly affect?) 5. Hide out of the culprit (Where it is most likely to be found?) 6. Most common injury done to victim (What are the symptoms of the disease?) 7. Most effective weapons against the germ. (What are the medicine/cures?) 9. What is the reward if it is caught? (no research, for fun) 8. Sketch a picture of the bacteria. Then label the DNA, cell membrane, flagella or cilia (if it has it) 2 Rough Draft of the Villain’s Wanted Poster! CARTOON BACTERIA: Here are some sample ideas to “cartoonify” (Ms. Liu’s word) the bacteria. Remember you want to make your bacteria look like a Villain! SAMPLE WANTED POSTERS: Here are sample formats for a “Wanted Poster.” Remember it must include the information on your research page on page 2. ROUGH DRAFT PART 1: Creating the Villain Draw two versions of your villain. Remember to label the DNA, cell membrane, and if it has it flagella or cilia. Also include a background of where it is found. Villain Option #1 Villain Options #2 3 ROUGH DRAFT PART 2: Make a rough draft of your Most Wanted Poster 4
