Virtual Tour Instructions Brompton Bikes Context: As a group assignment we will make a “virtual tour” of a bicycle factor. We will stop at certain places in the factory and make observations. Your group will identify concepts that have been learned from the Operations Management course at the tour stops. At the end of the tour your team will provide your group observations for improvement (or “best practices”) and recommendations. Your group will also research the company on the internet and make further recommendations for improvement (or identify “best practices”) from your research. Instructions: Watch the video and answer the questions at the “tour stops” as indicated. You have two options: identify an issue where you see an opportunity for improvement, and the associated recommendation for improvement or you have observed a “best practice” (a good way to manage this activity) and then identify why you consider this a good “best practice”. You can do either a problem for improvement or a best practice, but you do not need to do both. A2) Tour stop 13:30 to 15:00 - Parts Delivered on Time. Write about the supply of parts (particularly the issue of parts shortages) to the company that you observed at this stop (150 to 250 words). The observations must relate to concepts that are in the textbook. You have two options: identify an issue where you see an opportunity for improvement, and the associated recommendation for improvement or you have observed a “best practice” (a good way to manage this activity) and then identify why you consider this a good “best practice”. Write about the advantages and disadvantages of the current manufacturing process (from 15:00 minutes to 16:45) and the advantages and disadvantages about the proposed continuous flow process (17:00 to 18:50) (250 words).
