Rio Rico High School Distance Learning School Year 2021-2022 Mission The mission of the Rio Rico High School Distance Learning model is to provide a flexible learning model option which addresses students' learning styles, promotes academic success, and enables students to meet their unique academic needs. Goals ● To provide a flexible educational opportunity for students and their families; ● Collaborate with the student and his/her family to monitor and support student progress in the Distance Learning model/program; ● Remove barriers for academic achievement by delivering a comprehensive Distance Learning model. Entrance Requirements Students and their families will need to choose the Distance Learning Model for the school year 2021-2022. Students should sign up for the Distance Learning model during the enrollment window in the spring semester. Students with extenuating circumstances will be given enrollment priority. Enrollment Process and Orientation Meeting Students and their families have to register for the Distance Learning model option by completing the registration form. Registration form will be sent to student emails, posted on our school website and posted on our social media platforms. Once enrolled, students and their families must attend a Distance Learning Orientation meeting that will review all items relevant to our Distance Learning program. Additionally, all expectations and logistics of the Distance Learning program will be discussed. Students and families must attend the Orientation meeting in order to remain enrolled in the program for the next school year. Enrollment for the Distance Learning program will take place in the Spring for the next school year, and in the Fall for the second semester of that school year. Orientation meetings will be offered at both registration windows. Attendance Policy Per state law, students who are enrolled in the RRHS Distance Learning program must complete a minimum number of study hours per week. Students are recommended to work a minimum of 45 minutes in each class daily. Additionally, students will have to check at least once each week. However, it is recommended that students check in at least 3 times each week with their teachers to check in on their progress and to obtain academic support as needed. All teachers will be available to students during their scheduled class hours and will be available via Google meets. The Distance Learning model will follow the established bell schedule for Rio Rico High School. Edgenuity’s session logs are automatically updated at midnight, reflecting the previous day's work. Because automatic attendance entries use the time a student is logged in, the attendance log report does not reflect time spent working offline (i.e. reading, studying, solving math problems). Parents are asked to monitor (we R.E.P.) Relationships Excellence Pride 1 session logs (attendance log) by logging in to the family portal and checking the attendance log on a weekly basis. Study Schedule Students in distance learning will be assigned a full schedule consisting of 6 (six) courses. The classes which students signed up during registration will be assigned to students. However, not every course offered at Rio Rico High School will be available in our Distance Learning learning model. Please see the Academic section for additional information. Students are strongly encouraged to create and follow a study schedule, similar to the one below, or create one that works best for them. We are convinced that a major factor in the academic success of our Distance Learning students is structure and consistency. It is imperative that students work on all of their courses every day and stay on track to finish their course on time. Edgenuity’s team has designed each lesson with studentcentered objectives that maximize the use of Bloom’s Taxonomy of Learning Domains. Students progress through the lesson with a series of activities such as direct instruction videos by certified teachers, vocabulary instruction, interactive lab simulations, essay writing, and 21st Century skill activities (such as projects, design proposals, and case studies), before taking formative assessments. Cumulative exam reviews are also provided to reinforce mastery prior to students’ taking summative assessments. (we R.E.P.)
