A chemist is a scientist who studies
matter. Amando Kapuan was one of
the well-known Filipino chemists. He
studied on the effect of the heavy metals
like mercury on the environment his
work gave way to understanding of
proper use and disposal of mercury.
This prevents damages in waters, fish,
and soil of the Philippines.

This is a symbol for an atom.
Atom is what makes up matter. This is a
very small particle that your eyes
could not even see. But scientist observe
this particle using a tool like
high-powered microscope. This is a tool
that makes object look bigger
when observed. All matter is made up of
atoms. Even if the matter
is plastic, wood or metal, the particles
inside it are atoms.
