PART 1: Write a HOOK for ONE of the following introductory paragraph (1.5 marks)
Hook: What's so scary about global warming? We'll have to shower and use the air conditioner
more often than that, right? It's not wrong, but global warming causes negative effects on
human life. In the past 150 years, global temperatures have risen approximately 10C. If
temperatures continue to rise, the consequences could be catastrophic. As the earth’s
temperature rises, polar ice will melt, which will cause the water level of the oceans to rise.
Rising ocean levels, in turn, will cause flooding along the coasts. Global warming will also
cause major changes in climate that will affect agriculture.
Hook: Can money buy time? This is a question that gets a lot of attention when comparing the
importance of money and time. Some people say that money can buy everything. But in my
opinion, time is even more precious than money. Because when money is spent, we can earn it
back. But, when time is gone, it will never return. This is the reason why we must value time.
PART 2: Write a THESIS STATEMENT for ONE of the following introductory paragraph
(1.5 marks)
The busy schedules that most adults face from day to day have created a growing health
problem in the modern world. Stress affects almost everyone, from the highly pressured
executive to the busy homemaker or student. It can cause a variety of physical disorders,
ranging from headaches to stomach ulcers and even alcoholism. Stress, like a common cold, is
a problem that can’t be cured; however, it can be controlled.

Much of our learning takes place outside the classroom. We learn how to maintain budgets,
forge friendships, develop business relationships, and more. Imagine extending those skills on a
global level. We would immediately cease to believe the world only contains the people and
things we can see but, rather, a wide variety of opinions, customs, beliefs, and ethics. This is
why every university-level student must study abroad during their undergraduate years. They
will learn more in those semesters abroad than in any other academic year.

 Imagine having a job that fits your class schedule. You do not have conflicts with
studying because you only work at night and on the weekends. In addition, you can
work in a beautiful room with paintings on the walls, candlelight, and beautiful music
playing in the background.
 Thesis statement: At this time, all your stress and pressure from work and
study will be reduced and gradually under control. Organizing a reasonable
schedule and choosing a healthy work environment will help you deal with today's
stress problems.
 Almost everyone looks forward to the weekend. We often make our plans for the two free
days well in advance. Too often, however, the best of outdoor plans for the weekend are
ruined here in Miami when the weather clouds up and it rains from Friday evening until
Sunday afternoon. Fortunately, however, the weekend can be saved with a little bit of
creativity.
