BAT4M 10.4 Presentation – Financial Analysis & Decision Making Your group will prepare a presentation to the class, analysing the financial statements of two companies and providing a recommendation based on the analysis. Content Requirements: Determine your role in the analysis (CFO, Investor, consultant (explain), etc) o Describe the perspective from which you are analyzing o Describe any possible bias/preference you would have in your analysis o Describe your purposes in reviewing these businesses (competitor analysis, investment options, mergers/acquisition considerations, etc) o Based on the above – what would you be looking for? Select & describe two businesses o Select: They should be comparable (size, industry, etc) o Describe: Main operations, size, important financial considerations Compare the businesses on the basis of o Ratio/calculation analysis (quantitative) o Horizontal & vertical analysis (quantitative) o Qualitative analysis (including review of the notes to the FS, and the Annual Report) Provide a recommendation o Explain your recommendation based on your analysis and your role.
