10.4 Presentation – Financial Analysis & Decision Making
Your group will prepare a presentation to the class, analysing the financial statements of two companies
and providing a recommendation based on the analysis.
Content Requirements:
 Determine your role in the analysis (CFO, Investor, consultant (explain), etc)
o Describe the perspective from which you are analyzing
o Describe any possible bias/preference you would have in your analysis
o Describe your purposes in reviewing these businesses (competitor analysis, investment
options, mergers/acquisition considerations, etc)
o Based on the above – what would you be looking for?
 Select & describe two businesses
o Select: They should be comparable (size, industry, etc)
o Describe: Main operations, size, important financial considerations
 Compare the businesses on the basis of
o Ratio/calculation analysis (quantitative)
o Horizontal & vertical analysis (quantitative)
o Qualitative analysis (including review of the notes to the FS, and the Annual Report)
 Provide a recommendation
o Explain your recommendation based on your analysis and your role.
Presentation Requirements:
 Presentation should be interesting and engaging
 Approximately 15 mins long
 Visual aid is required
 All group members must present (not necessarily equally)
 Presentation may include a skit (optional, not required)
 Four groups of 3 and one group of 4
