SWBAT understand and apply the properties of operations and the relationship between addition and subtraction PA Core Standards and Anchors CC.2.2.1.A.2 Understand and apply properties of operations and the relationship between addition and subtraction Materials: Composing and Decomposing Activity Sheets (pages 3,5,and 6) Instructions: (Give specific, sequential directions for the teacher to follow when completing this math activity.) 1.Give each student the 10 popcorn manipulatives – pg. 5 (Or give children counters or real popcorn) 2. Draw one of the popcorn number cards and place that number on the popcorn box next to the elephant 3. Have children share the individual popcorn between the seal and the lion 4. Children will discuss the different ways they shared the popcorn (how many they gave to the lion and seal) 5. Tell the students bow many popcorn kernels to give to the lion and then find out how many is left for the seal 6. Repeat number 5 several times so children can practice 7.
