§ “Quality is thus a perception that is based on an individual’s
value system. It relies heavily on the culture, life experiences,
and expectations of each individual. Quality receives a new
definition with each interaction between an individual and an
item for which the term is evaluated.... ‘I know it when I see it”

the unquality things-all the actions that involve not doing jobs

Introduction to quality management
§ In 1955, we bought a product that helps in linen washing;
§ In 1975, we bought a washing machine to wash the whole linen.
we asked for a guarantee in case of defect;
§ In 1995, we bought a washing machine to wash the whole linen
(in silence) and we wanted a technician to install it and to
explain how it works;
§ Today, we will buy a washing machine, the associated services
already asked in 1995 but in addition to new services, it should
recycle water before rejecting it and to be constructed by an
enterprise respecting the norms of international ethics.

Introduction to quality management
§ Quality is expensive but something exists
more expensive than the quality, the absence
of quality.
§ It is essential to study the relation between
the quality and the cost.
§ Quality is defined as the capacity to produce a product/services
without errors.
§ Its major financial effect is the reduction of the costs by the
reduction of wastes.

One important component for a functioning QA system is the
formal documentation of quality activities.
§ According to Montgomery (2005b) there are four types of
documentation, namely:
1.
Policy that explains what has to be done and why
2.
Procedures focus on useful methods and the personnel that will
implement policy
3.
Work instructions and specifications are supposed to give
direction to product-, department-, tool- or machine-oriented
activities
4.
Records are present to detect specific units or parts of products
or services, so that their producing process can be determined

§ TQM is the way of managing for the future, and is far wider in
its application than just assuring product or service quality – it
is a way of managing people and business processes to ensure
complete customer satisfaction at every stage, internally and
externally.
§ TQM, combined with effective leadership, results in an
organization doing the right things right, first time.

§ “Quality is never an accident; it is always the result of high
intention, sincere effort, intelligent direction, and skillful
execution. It represents the wise choice of many alternatives”.

§ “Quality is the result of a carefully constructed culture; it has to
be the fabric of the organization—not part of the fabric, but the
actual fabric. It is not hard for a modern management team to
produce quality if they are willing to learn how to change and
implement”.
