4) A small meteor is seen at a distance of 1 x 107 m from the center of a planet. The planet
has a mass of 1 x 1022 kg and a radius of 1 x 106 m. The meteor is headed straight toward
the planet with a speed of 300 m/s. What will be the speed of the meteor upon impact
with the planet? Show all work!
5) A mass of mass m occupies the origin, and a mass 9m occupies the point 12,0. At what
point is their combined gravitational field strength equal to zero? Show all work!
6) A uniform rod rotates in a horizontal plane about a vertical axis through one end. The
rod is 6.00 m long, weights 10 N and rotates at 240 rev/min. Calculate the magnitude of
the angular momentum about the axis. Show all work!
