Design Norms pre-survey Childhood street name:__Riverside Dr.________________ Birthday day of the month:__11_________ 1. Name as many of the design norms as you can, and explain each one in a single sentence. Ooh I’m not sure If these are exactly design norms or not: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 2. Strength: How well the design can hold under intense stress Aesthetic: Does it look nice, will people want to use it? Durability: If the design can go through different processes End-use: How long will the design last, is it disposable? Compostable? Ease of use: Is it simple? Straightforward? Affordable: Make sure the cost is manageable for the supply and demand. Explain how/when you might use design norms in the engineering process. To make sure the design will be the most useful while also being accessible to the users. The most efficient design in terms of cost relative to use and waste. 3. Are there any cautions we need to be mindful of as we consider design norms? I.e., can they be used incorrectly? When we start to design things that are ultimately damaging to society, (i.e. a wasteful product that needs constant maintenance, costing more and hurting the environment more than before). We should be mindful that our products and designs ultimately help society.
