Review results of GAPSS review and identify strengths and weaknesses to be addressed 1/6/09 – 3/13/09 Administrators Department Chairs Fara Hicks The majority of subject teams have established a curriculum map and unit plans collaboratively. These are available electronically on subject drives available to all department members. Nathan Franklin presented summarized results of GAPSS review by strands. GAPSS committees met and reviewed their individual strands and recommendations. Monitoring: AP classroom visits, Collaborative planning session visits, reports to the Principal, sample common assessments Impact on Student Learning: Consistent and Pervasive instruction in each subject team classroom equaling increased student achievement. Monitor collaborative planning through administrative participation and documentation. Administrators will share evidence of teaching and learning at each administrators meeting along with collaborative planning meeting notes that include examples of discussed student work, teachers using the language of the standards during the lesson and in feedback on student work. Differentiation training by Miranda Compton will be held on 1/22 at the main campus during planning periods and on 1/29 at the academy during planning periods. Tier 2 at LHS presented by POI team at faculty meeting. Finish shared drive of interventions for teacher access during planning time. Professional development training on SEMS Tracker for staff. Instruction 1.1-3.3, 2.7 Leadership 1.1 -4.3 Objective: to improve test results on standardized tests: GHSGT, EOCT, SAT 1/6/09 – 3/13/09 EOCT subject area faculty Administrators Implementation: EOCT preparation implementation will be monitored by checking OAS summary reports and analysis of EOCT scores. Fara Hicks created list of math at risk students based on past EOCT failures and distributed to current math teachers and department chair. Identify sub-group and at risk students for HSGT. Each subject area created an A+ review to be used for student review/remediation. Develop specific remediation for HSGT by department. POI committee has been established and meets monthly to review specific student situations and create POI processes and procedures. Emily Keag presented “POI Tier 1 / Standards Based Classroom Learning” on 1/5/09 to faculty. Include Brad Williford from MHS to ensure county wide collaboration. Provide professional development on reading in the subject areas to improve reading skills for struggling readers. Establish a manageable process for identifying and monitoring the students on Tier 1 and 2 of the POI process. First of 3 sessions on “understanding poverty” completed by Sallie Echols. Faculty workshop “Understanding Poverty” to enhance teachers’ ability to recognize and teach students who are victims of generational poverty. Instruction 1.1 – 1.3, 2.7 Objective: to increase student success in Math 1 Implementation: Gather modification suggestions for Math support students. Analyze prerequisite skills and remediation strategies. Carole Hicks provided list of all subgroup students to all faculty. Emily Keag distributes DEES sub-group student information and they create action plans based on IEPs and teaching strategies. Extended advisements for test prep. Counselors will gather course history for each student in sub-group and assess the need for specific remediation by subject area. Reading in the Content Areas training by Fara Hicks will be held on 2/5 at the main campus during planning periods and on 2/12 at the academy during planning periods. 2nd and 3rd sessions on “understanding poverty” are scheduled with Sally Echols. Understanding Poverty book study is also available. Emily Keag will distribute EOCT data for DEES students so teachers can engage in a reflective activity to examine and compare teaching strategies and achievement data from last year to this year. June Reid will implement an “after the tutoring, tutoring” to teach organizational skills, out of the box teaching strategies to reach at risk students. Monitoring: Historical achievement of at risk students, OAS summary reports, POI meetings, and student participation in academy of reading and math. 1/6/09 – 3/13/09 Math 1 faculty Administrators Math Department Chair Professional Learning Coach Impact on Student Learning: Lunch-nlearns give exposure to test prep, poverty training helps teaches identify student issues that slow achievement. 100% of math 1b, math support and math special education collaborative teachers were trained in math support strategies 1/5/09. Emily Keag and Fara Hicks: Vertical team to gather graphic organizers for key standards at each grade level and Distribute Cognitive Tutor licenses for home use for at risk students. progress. Cognitive tutor licenses were distributed, students were trained by Mr. Ruiz on how to use the software, parents were notified of expectations, and the computer lab is available Tuesday evenings from 6 to 8 for student use. Increase student’s awareness of GA Virtual School free online course. Provide homework help in the evenings via Elluminate sessions facilitated by certified math teachers. Peer tutors have been identified and training is in process for after school help and during the day assistance for Math 1 teachers. Provide student peer tutoring in class and during after school tutoring sessions. Vertical team has been established and met to determine direction and goals. Create vertical team alignment for math content and methods. create “set of documents” for student review at the next level. In mid January Fara Hicks and Jackie Meadows will start an online math 1 elluminate tutoring program from 7:30 – 8:30 PM Monday – Thursday. Elluminate facilitator accounts have been created and access link to LHS web page is in process. Nathan Franklin will continue to meet with RESA reps along with Kaycie Maddox to investigate what other schools are doing to improve student achievement in Math 1 and also scheduling ideas for Math 2. Monitoring: classroom visits, student work, student assessment scores, and after school tutoring attendance logs. Impact on Student Learning: hearing topics explained in different ways by different people will improve student achievement. Student Family Community 1.1 Objective: to increase communication and training for parents Implementation: Continue communication with parents regarding student achievement and behavior via Progressbook (gradebook program) 1/6/09 – 3/13/09 Teachers College and Career Coach Administrators Andrea Mitchell and Fara Hicks will attend a seminar on community and parent lunch-n-learns. They will redeliver to leadership team for implementation at LHS. Utilize connect ed. to update parents on current events and important dates. Provide “Positive Discipline” training via CD to parents. DEES department shall forward parent/mentor activity information as received by county DEES department. Provide Lunch and Learn session for parents on helping their high school student become successful. Monitoring: Parent logins on Progressbook, teacher communication logs, and early release sign in logs. Impact on Student Learning: standardized test scores improve, percentage of students that exceeds standards shall increase, and at risk student achievement shall increase. Copy the training CD for distribution. Gather information to be included in parent lunch and learn session. Information sessions regarding registration decisions to be held for parents, teaches, and students. POI Team finalizes parent letter for Tier 1 and Tier 2 students. Computer lab will be opened one night per week at both locations for student and parent usage, 6-8 PM.
