1.1 Overview
1.1.1 Durbanville Equestrian Centre is a horse riding centre that offers horse riding lessons for persons aged 2
and upwards.
1.1.2 Our programme comprises of creating a bond between riders and horses/ ponies. We base this on
teaching and continued learning, combined with physical and motor-skill development. The Durbanville
Equestrian Centre curriculum has been designed to encompass and focus on both safety and skill, where kids
are expected to assist in tacking up ponies and un-tacking as well as learning how to care for ponies and
horses.
1.1.3 No amateur outside instruction or side-line commentary will be tolerated. Parents are not allowed to give
comments from the side of arenas during lessons, and interfere with instructors commands, for rider’s safety.

1.2 Weather
1.2.1 Lessons will still continue under all weather conditions. In event of bad weather children are required to
wear wellington boots and will do important theory lessons. Riding clothes are to be packed and brought with.
Hard hats are compulsory.

1.3 Cancellations
1.3.1 A 24 hour notice period is required should you not be able to make your lesson. Failure to do so will result
in you forfeiting your lesson and will still be billed for that lesson.
1.3.2 Should you miss a lesson, which has been cancelled at least 24hours in advanced, your lesson will be
rescheduled to a date that suits both instructor and client. Lessons have to be caught up within two weeks of
cancellation (strictly if original terms of cancellation were adhered to).
1.3.3 If for any reason lesson is cancelled on the day of lesson a valid doctor note is to be supplied or lesson will
be forfeited and will still be billed for that lesson.

1.4 AHS – African Horse Sickness and Flu Vaccinations
AHS: New inoculation regulations state that all horses are to receive inoculations between 1 June and 31
October annually.

Due to our horses requiring state compulsory AHS inoculations, in which our horses are inoculated with a live
vaccine, it affects their heart and lungs. This is a 6 week course, and State Veterinary protocol is as follows:
Please be understanding as to why we have to reduce work load in this period.
Flu Vaccinations: 6 Monthly – January and July each year. Please understand each horse reacts differently to
vaccines and some horses are known to show adverse reactions to these vaccines.

1.5 Liability Release
I understand that this is a high risk sport and I am participating at my own risk. I hereby assume this risk and
further do hereby release and hold harmless the owners of Durbanville Equestrian Centre Pty Ltd, the property
owner and its agents, employees, volunteers, the host of this equestrian activity and the facilities from all liability
for negligence resulting in accidents, damage, injury or illness to myself and to my property, including the horse
or horses which I will ride at this facility.

2.0 Conduct
2.0.1 I understand that children are at particular risk around horses and agree that I will keep children that I am
responsible for, under close supervision when they are not being instructed by one of Durbanville Equestrian
Centre’s instructors.
2.0.2 I understand that Durbanville Equestrian Centre’s instructors and staff will make decisions based on
information I give them and agree to always be honest and volunteer information about:
1. 2.0.2.1 -my abilities and riding experience
2. 2.0.2.2 -any previous riding accidents
3. 2.0.2.3 -any medical condition(s) which may affect my ability to ride
2.0.4 Parts of the yard are uneven and may be slippery, please ensure you are wearing suitable footwear even if
you are not riding.
2.0.5 I agree to wear a helmet and the necessary safety gear whilst riding a horse, as well as when I am handling
or leading horses and grooming horses or anywhere near a horse on Durbanville Equestrian Centre Pty Ltd.
2.0.6 I understand that competing carries enhanced risk over and above general riding and agree that if I chose
to participate in any competition or event, it is up to me to ensure that I have the experience and ability to ride. If I
am in any doubt, I will use my judgment and experience and not enter.

2.1 Sale and Death of Horses and Ponies:
2.1.1 I understand that a horse and pony may pass away. I understand that this is a reality associated with live
animals and is my responsibility to prepare my child that this is a reality.
2.1.2 I understand that horses may be sold on at the discretion of the horse or pony owner. Should I wish to
purchase a horse from Durbanville Equestrian Centre Pty Ltd, a formal offer must be presented to the staff of
Durbanville Equestrian Centre Pty Ltd. Durbanville Equestrian Centre Pty Ltd reserve the right to sell or re-home
a horse or pony at any time. Only if a child is LEASING an individual pony, it is the responsibility of Durbanville
Equestrian Centre Pty Ltd to notify the Lessee and give them an option to purchase the pony at said price first.
2.1.3 I understand that all horses and ponies that are owned by Durbanville Equestrian Centre Pty Ltd can be
sold at the discretion of Durbanville Equestrian Centre Pty Ltd at any time. I understand that Durbanville
Equestrian Centre Pty Ltd is a business and that the sale of a horse or pony is at times not a choice but a
necessity in order to assist in the payment of unforeseen bills or due to a private offer made on a pony.
2.1.4 I understand that NOT ALL horses and ponies at Durbanville Equestrian Centre Pty Ltd belong to
Durbanville Equestrian Centre Pty Ltd and that some belong to private parties. I understand these ponies are not
owned by Durbanville Equestrian Centre pty ltd, and that they are being housed at Durbanville Equestrian Centre
pty ltd, or are on loan to Durbanville Equestrian Centre pty ltd. The removal of these horses and ponies are
solely at the discretion of the horse or pony’s OWNER.

2.2 Effect of this Document
I understand that my signature to this document constitutes a complete and unconditional release of all liability of
Durbanville Equestrian Centre Pty Ltd and its directors, share holders, the owners of the property and its agents,
employees, volunteers, the host of this equestrian activity and the facilities, the Equestrian association of South
Africa, including all of its state bodies, coaches and affiliated clubs, to the greatest extent allowed by law in the
event of me and/or the children under my care or any other person I bring onto Durbanville Equestrian Centre
Pty Ltd d and Caradell Farm, suffering injury, loss or death. This includes the release of any liability of any
personal loss, damage or injury occurring whilst on the property of Durbanville Equestrian Centre pty ltd and
Caradell Farm to the greatest extent allowed by law.

2.3 Sub Clause
2.3.1 Should you not be able to adhere to the contract above, booking lesson times will be on flexible basis with
no set times or days. Lessons should be booked 48 hours in advance via EFT to secure spot, this will be nonrefundable.
2.3.2 Additional costs involved for flexi lessons are R350.00 for 60miniutes and R250 for 30 minutes.
