LEARNING ACTIVITY SHEET (LAS) PRACTICAL RESEARCH 1 Name of Learner LRN Grade Level Strand / Section Background Information for Learners Learning Competency with code Directions/ Instructions Exercises/ Activities Topic/Content: Present Written Research Methodology Coding and Thematic Analysis Research methods are specific procedures for collecting and analyzing data. Content analysis is a research tool used to determine the presence of certain words, themes, or concepts within some given qualitative data (i.e. text). Using content analysis, researchers can quantify and analyze the presence, meanings and relationships of such certain words, themes, or concepts. CS_RS11-IVa-c-1 chooses appropriate qualitative research design CS_RS11-IVa-c-2 describes sampling procedure and sample CS_RS11-IVa-c-3 plans data collection, data gathering instrument, and analysis procedures CS_RS11-IVa-c-4 presents written research methodology CS_RS11-IVd-f-1 collects data through observation and interviews CS_RS11-IVd-f-2 infers and explain patterns and themes from data CS_RS11-IVd-f-3 relates the findings with pertinent literature 1. Read the directions for each activity in the Learning Activity Sheets. Always write legibly. 2. Make sure you have the following information on the first page of your answer sheets (use the format below): Name: Strand/Section: LRN Subject: PRACTICAL RESEARCH 1 Topic Name of Teacher MARIVIC M. AWAT Date of Submission Parent’s Signature Over Printed Name (Paunawa sa magulang: Tingnan pong mabuti kung kumpleto at maayos ang mga gawain na ipapasa ng inyong mga anak bago pirmahan) 4. In case you need extra paper, staple all the additional answer sheets that you used and put page number at the bottom of each sheet (page 1, page 2, …) after finishing all the tasks. 5. Ask your parents to check the completeness of your accomplished tasks and ask them to put their signature as proof of their supervision and of your task accomplishment. 6. Check the completeness of your answers in all activities. It is also recommended that you take pictures of your outputs as backup copy in case that I don’t receive them during the retrieval day. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________ Activity 1. Using your title, fill in the box with the required parts of research methodology. Qualitative Research Design Sampling Procedure and Sample Data Collection, Data Gathering Instrument, Analysis and Procedures Activity 2. Based on the table above make a descriptive written research methodology. Example: Qualitative Research Design Sampling Procedure and Sample Data Collection, Data Gathering Instrument, Analysis and Procedures Phenomenology Purposive Sampling Grade 11 HUMSS Wisdom, 10 participants (5 male and 5 female) Interview Open – ended questions Thematic analysis Research Methodology The research utilizes phenomenology which is described as form of qualitative research that focuses on the study of an individual’s lived experiences within the world (https://link.springer.com/). Purposive sampling was used to determine the participants who came from Grade 11 HUMSS Wisdom, which comprises of 5 male and 5 female. Data was collected thru interview using open ended questions. Data gathered was analyzed and emerging themes were conceptualized. Activity 3. Using your data collected, fill out the information asked in the table below. (use a separate sheet and staple your answers with the LAS) Raw Data (answers from the interview, data from observation) Preliminary Codes Final Codes Activity 4. Discuss the inference and emerging themes from your table in Activity 3. Include supporting research article. Example: Raw Data Retire600px The closer I get to “retirement age” the faster I want it to happen. I’m not even 55 yet and I would give anything to retire now. But there’s a mortgage to pay off and still a lot more to sock away in savings before I can even think of it. I keep Preliminary Codes * retirement age* financial obligations dreams of retirement early Final Code RETIREMENT ANXIETY playing the lottery, though, in hopes of dreams of early winning those millions. No retirement luck yet. Emerging Themes: Based on the table it can be inferred that participants are anxious thinking about their retirement. Related Literature: Burton (2019) suggested from his article that retirement is a major transition that affects people especially their emotions. Scoring Rubric: Criteria Qualitative Research Design Research Methodology Reflection Excellent (50) Completed the information in the table Methods and information are described concisely. Good (20) Provided 2 information needed in the table Methods and information are mentioned but not described properly Poor (10) Provided 1 information needed in the table Indicates words which are not properly used to described information in the table Coding Table Completed the coding Participants answers are Did not provide proper table not coded properly coding. Inferences and Emerging Made inferences and Made inferences but lack Inference and literature is Themes indicates related literature literature. not related to the codes obtained Direction: Reflect on what you have learned after taking up this lesson by completing the chart below. I thought What were your thoughts or ideas about research prior to the discussion of this lesson? What new or additional ideas did you learn and realizations after taking up this lesson?
