Directions for Interactive Notebook
How to Set Up Your Interactive Notebook
NOTE:
You will be graded on content neatness and creativity of illustrations for this notebook.
1. Neatly print your first and last name on the first line. On the second line, write the name
of the class (one of the following Chemistry) and on the third line write Mrs. Despain.
2. Number each page in the upper edge 1-200, (make sure to use neatly written numbers in
the upper right-hand, and the upper left hand corner for each left side page.

* The very first sheet of your notebook is page 1. The back of the first sheet is page 2 and so
on.
3. On inside cover, tape the instructions for writing a Lab Report Format sheet.
4. On Page 1, place The Lab Rubric Grading Sheet (example). This is how all of your major labs
will be graded.

On pages 2-6 write the following
a.) On the Top Line Margin write “Table of Contents”

7. For notes that you will take in this class, know that if you are absent, either borrow mine
during silent reading time to catch up or borrow a friend’s notebook. Make sure that you get
the missing handouts that you need and do the missing work.
8. Page 8 will contain your signed note from you parents about the Lab Safety. You must get
this signed by your parents before you can enter the lab. (Fold it in half and taped so you can
read it)
9. Read the passage below. Then, highlight the words No doodling or non-class related
artwork is allowed! Highlight the following: “DO NOT RIP OUT PAGES.” Highlight the
following “You must bring this notebook to class daily.”
10. Write the on Page 7: “No doodling or non-class related artwork is allowed! “DO NOT RIP
OUT PAGES.” Highlight the following “You must bring this notebook to class daily.”
You must bring this notebook to class daily. All lab-work done in class at this school, as
well as class notes, reading notes, discussion notes, and handouts with new information
will be placed in this Interactive Notebook. DO NOT RIP OUT PAGES and do your best to
keep it looking good. No doodling or non-class related artwork is allowed! Be creative
on the cover. Creativity and artistic work (drawings, poems, and graphic organizers)
does count. All practice work should be glued or taped into book. All materials should
be neat and reflect student pride in your work.
10. Place the Directions for the Interactive Notebook on page 1. (Fold it in half and taped so
you can read it!)
Bonus: You may be artistic and creative only on the cover but you must adhere to the rules of
the school. No inappropriate gang, drug related symbols, words or pictures, are on the cover.
All art must be related to the science class that you are enrolled.
Notebooks will be checked periodically for completeness, organization, quality of work, and
visual appeal. This is separate from the actual lab grade. All class notes and notebook
assignments should be included, even for the days when you are absent.
NOTE: Grade for the notebook is based on how accurately you followed the directions and
completed the Notebook. You will receive 10 points for each number completed.
Signatures here will be used for participation points next week. It demonstrates that you
understand the purpose of the notebook and will abide by rules regarding the keeping of the
notebook.
