Carlos Puente January 29, 2021 Political correctness is killing freedom of speech In the last few years, we have experienced a very special type of censorship, typically coming as a response from the radical left in various countries including the United States. People who support minorities seem to be oversensitive to the the opinions that are different from theirs, and they tend to cancel or censor those statements. For example, young people among the free world have been having good thoughts about socialism, because they have been told it is fair, and anything you say against that would be a good reason for them to start saying that you are an insensitive person who defends inequality and hates poor people. This is a big problem for conservatives and libertarians, because we are the ones that almost always express our opinions data-in-hand, but our not so tolerant opponents tend to take everything as a personal issue and they start attacking the person who is sending the message instead of analyzing the message. In addition, there have been lots of journalists and TV anchors who have been attacked and threatened because they said something the radical left did not like, this is the case for people who have not supported groups like Black Lives Matter or Antifa. I personally have been taken as a “fascist”, “racist” and “intolerant” person because I have written a few comments in social media defending free markets and individual rights against the violence, in which the mentioned groups get involved in the name of a false and ineffective desire to “make justice”. And the worst part is that history is less than important for these coward crowds, that is the case for the ones that use t-shirts with the face of the communist guerrillero leader, Ernesto “Che” Guevara”, while protesting against racism or ghting for LBTQ rights, ignoring the fact that Guevara was in fact an assassin who hated black people and homosexuals, and yes, he usually killed them. Political correctness is threatening our liberties, and it really scares me that cancelling and censoring politically incorrect opinions is becoming a recurrent behavior in the United States, putting the land of the individual freedoms at risk of falling into the hands of foolish people like Bernie Sanders or Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and her dream team of socialist ignorants. In contrast, there has also been a very strong wave of young people who are on the other side, like me, a libertarian ghting day after day against this new establishment of political correction, defending my life, liberty and property from the unscrupulous intentions of the ones who are trying to silence us. fi fi fi In conclusion, this is a cultural battle we will win later than sooner, but it is amazingly worth the effort as I enjoy seeing angry radical left faces frustrated because morality, rationality and decency are not on their eld of action.
