MANAnG BIDAY A Folk dance By: kyle Michael Rocero HISTORY -Manang Biday is a popular folk song and also a folk dance in the Ilocos region. -Biday is the name of a girl with whom a young man is very much in love. COSTUME Dancers are dressed in typical Ilocano peasant costume. MUSIC -Composed of one part of eight measures. -Play the music twice for every figure of the dance. DANCE STEPS PART 1 PART 1 PART 1 PART 1 PART 1 Partners face each other and do the following step. Boy has hands on hips, Girl holds skirt : a) Place right heel forward (2 counts). Bring right ft back to place ( l count ) Place left heel forward (2 counts). Bring left foot back to place for ( l count) 2 meas. b) Starting with right foot , take two waltz steps forward to meet at center and two waltz steps backward to proper places. Arms in lateral position, moving sideward right and left alternately . 4 meas. c) Three step turn right in place, hands as in (a) 2 meas. d) Repeat all from (a-c) , 8 meas. PART 2 PART 2 PART 2 PART 2 PART 2 PART 2 PART 2 Partners face front: a) Starting with right foot , take two waltz steps forward. Kumitang Right hand, left hand on waist on first measure and reverse position of hands on second measure 2. b) Do two touch steps n front , (Right, Left ) with hands as in figure Part l-(a) . The touch step is : Place Right toe forward (2 counts). Bring foot to place, count 1 Place Left toe forward (2 counts). Bring foot to place, count 1. 2 meas. c) Repeat Part 2-(a) moving backwards t o place 2 meas. d) Three step tur n right in place.
