Music and Stress Lesson 6/400 Introduction-To some, staying healthy means a well-balanced diet, proper exercise and good sleep. It may come as a surprise but music can play a big role in our health. In a study in Germany, people were split into groups to listen to different music. The first group listened to Mozart, the second to ABBA (a Swedish punk rock band) while the third group sat down. The group that listened to Mozart had a healthy calm heart whereas the other groups did not. The study showed that for music to have a calming effect it must have no words, few changes in volume and a gentle harmony. Music is used like medicine. It can help ease pain and boost the immune system. It also relieves anxiety for people who are over stressed. Classical music is reported to give calming effects to people in the city. Foreigners learning English can learn faster by listening to Mozart. Farmers in France played classical music to their cows to produce more milk! Using music to increase health is easy, cheap, and safe! Why shouldn’t we use it?!!
