Mr and Ms Icon Literature 2016
Title
RATIONALE
As we all know, we are now in 21st century where technology is involve and
innovation occurs. The k-12 is one of the examples of 21st century because in this day
students concentrate to global competition. In line with this, the teachers are expected
to embrace the 21st century learners by giving them the 21st century instructional
materials. The English Department teachers took part in adapting and embracing
innovations in teaching.
Started from year 2015, the English Department has been using one (1) 42-inch
LED TV in where the English teachers can use it in delivering her classes but it’s not
enough to cater all English Teachers. This year 2016-2017, the department is
proposing to purchase six (6) LED TV, if possible, to aid the needs of the teachers in
her discussions in the 21st century world.
How television inside the classroom helps in teaching-learning process?
We’ve all heard the proverb: “Seeing is believing.” Research has shown
that seeing is remembering, too. Marshall (2001) cites the conclusions of Wiman and
Mierhenry (1969) who found that “…people will generally remember: 10% of what they
read 20% of what they hear 30% of what they see and 50% of what they see and
hear.” (https://www.dcmp.org/caai/nadh173.pdf).
Classroom Technology enhances learning by: Allowing multiple teaching
approaches, Improving flexibility in classrooms, Providing access to current information,
Increasing teacher engagement, Sparking creativity, Encouraging student collaboration
and participation (http://serc.carleton.edu/sp/library/media/why.html).
The best teachers understand that even a perfect lesson plan won’t help
students learn if they aren’t engaged. Keeping students actively involved in classroom
activities that stimulate thinking, encourage interaction and support collaboration gets
kids excited to learn.
Televisions have been used in the classroom to augment teaching for more than
fifty years for just this purpose. At first, TVs primarily provided recorded lectures and
educational television programs. But classroom tech has come a long way in the last
half century. Today’s educators bring new life to the classroom by integrating television
with technology to create a more engaged classroom.
Many of the teachers who bring tech into the classroom use one of three tools.
Smart TVs are similar to traditional televisions, but they can connect to the Internet,
allowing streaming of programs, videos and apps. Apple TVs are devices that, when
used with an iPad and a projector or television screen, can stream like a Smart TV, but
also allow all of the information on the iPad to be mirrored or shown on the projector.
Interactive whiteboards, while not technically TVs, when connected with a projector and
laptop, are often used interchangeably with the high tech TVs, replacing traditional
whiteboards and DVD players
(http://www.edudemic.com/5-ways-to-use-apple-tv-in-
the-classroom/).
In English subject, television is an excellent tool for illustrating the differences
between literary genres, for example comparing a novel to its movie adaptation, or
comparing a newspaper story to a television news story (http://www.corwin.com/upmdata/6635_tileston_9_ch_1.p).
Why we choose LED TV?
What are the features of LED backlit LCD TV’S? A LED TV achieves deeper
blacks as well as emitting brighter images, thereby producing better contrast ratios; they
are slimmer (especially edge-LED lighting system); they deliver better viewing angles
than other LCD TV’s; LEDs are long-lasting; LED’s are more energy efficient than their
CCFL counterparts, and better than plasma Tv’s and much better than CRT’s; LEDs
don’t use mercury like some other backlighting methods. We can also use/connect
USB’s and laptop on it (http://www.gizmag.com/what-is-an-led-tv/13099/).
With the advocacy of the English teachers and English Club Officers 2016-2017,
a project proposal is made for the purpose of generating funds to buy this type of
equipment. “Campus Mr. and Ms. Literature 2016” is what we, English teachers and
English Clubbers, believe to help us make our wish into reality.
“Mr. and Ms. Icon of Literature 2016” is money generating project wherein
students will give money to the contestants they like in every week until the canvassing
day. This contest will serve as fundraising for the proceeds of English Department
project.
The money will be generated from this project will be accounted for duly signed
by English Club Treasurer, President and all English teachers after which will be used to
buy LED TV.
