Personal Project Report Building a computer Miguel Ferreira 2015-2016 After i had figured out how to build a pc and was sure that's what i wanted to do through mind mapping and research i began to search for other pc builds that might help me build mine. This was a fairly difficult process since i wanted something powerful but reliable enough to last me a long time. So i opted for a budget of 8000 dkk for the computer and 3000 dkk for the keyboard and mouse. this was a fairly good budget, because i wouldn't have to cheapen out on certain parts of the pc, keyboard and monitor Parts Tech syndicate Pc (DDR3). Tek Syndicate's video really helped me put into perspective of what i needed and helped not to forget that i would still need a keyboard and monitor. But there were a few problems since i may want to upgrade in the future having a more expensive motherboard will be beneficial since it can support overclocking and generally give more options for upgrading. As the motherboard is the basis for any computer i want a solid motherboard. As well as that a lot of these companies i am not familiar with which worries me a little, Another problem was I was not able to find some of these parts near denmark so getting them shipped would just cost more. CPU: AMD FX6300 Although a solid cpu with 6 cores it's not nearly as fast as an intel i5 Cpu with 4 cores, It also features DDR3 Memory type and 95 watts of power, to get this processor i would require a motherboard compatible with amd CPUs which can be a little harder to find. Motherboard: ASRock 980DE3/U3S3 A simple motherboard with support of up to 32gb of RAM, 2x usb 3.0 ports, 4x usb 2.0. This motherboard uses amd sockets for the cpu from the usual LGA of intel processors GPU: SAPPHIRE TRI-X OC Radeon R9 290X 100361-2SR A very good Gpu with 4gb of GDDR5 memory 2x DVI ports 1x HDMI x1 Displayport, it also has support for directx 12, this is a very good GPU and a good candidate for the final build. Case: DEEPCOOL TESSERACT WH Mid Tower Computer Case A simple budget case with 1x usb 3.0 port and 1x usb 2.0 ports Dust filters and decent cable management options, also comes with 1x pre installed fan RAM: ADATA XPG V2 16GB 8GB is usually enough for any sort of gaming, even though it's a good RAM choice you can always install more RAM if required. SSD: Corsair Force Series LS 120GB The great thing about SSD is they are incredibly fast and this one is no exception It has a max sequential read of up to 535mb/sec And a max sequential write of up to 440mb/sec. 120 gb is perfect for installing the os on, and a couple of your favourite games this will result in almost instant boot up of your pc. HDD: HITACHI 0F10452 2.0TB SATA 3.0Gb/s 7200 RPM 32MB Buffer Hard Drive Bulk A decent hard drive but i do not require 2 tb its just overboard and unnecessary, i am also not familiar with this brand and much rather prefer western digital CPU Fan: DEEPCOOL GAMMAXX S40 CPU Cooler A good fan to keep the cpu cooled although i much rather just get a case with more fans and use the normal fan that most cpus come with PSU: EVGA 100-B1-0600-KR - 600W 80 Plus Bronze Power Supply This 600 watt psu is enough for most mid to high range pc builds. It is also a bronze PSU meaning it will be more efficient under more stress than the, Bronze PSU have an average of 83% efficiency rating. Parts neutron 2.0 (Austin Evans) (DDR3) I then looked at a video made by Austin Evans this gave me a pc more suited to my price range, it featured very solid parts from well know brands, Although the build seemed good there were some problems the motherboard again wasn’t it got poor reviews and was not liked by many. Although this pc was more expensive it featured a worse graphics card, this was because all the other parts were of much higher quality. CPU: Intel Core i5-4460 Intels CPUs have always been great for gaming and non gaming builds and are the most used, it has DDR3 memory type and takes 84 watts of power, Although it isnt as fast as an i7 it's usually enough for most setups. For streaming and video making an i7 is a better choice. Motherboard: ASUS Micro ATX DDR3 1600 LGA 1150 Motherboard B85M-G R2.0 A decent motherboard with support for up to 32gb of RAM 4x usb 2.0 and 4x usb 3.0 it also features 4x sata 3 ports and 2x sata 2 ports. GPU: EVGA GeForce GTX 960 2GB SSC GAMING A good GPU with 2GB of GDDR5 memory 1x dual link DVI 1x HDMI and 3x Display ports, this GPU is also super super clocked this competes with higher end graphics cards because of the performance boost. This is one of the best cards for a budget pc because of its incredibly low price for performance. Case: Corsair Carbide Series 100R Mid Tower A very good budget case with 2x usb 3.0 ports 1x 120mm pre installed fan and support for up to 4 more, It also has good cable management options and it is completely tool free to use. RAM: Crucial Ballistix Sport 8GB Kit RAM with great reviews and praised for its good quality for price. 8GB is enough for most gaming and since it only takes up to slots there is room for up to 16GB. SSD: Crucial BX100 250GB SATA 2.5 Inch Internal Solid State Drive A good SSD with a lot of storage although it's not the fastest SSD it still reads up to 535 mb/sec and writes up to 370 mb/sec if you want storage over speed this is a fantastic budget SSD HDD: WD Blue 1TB Desktop 3.5 Inch Western digital have been around for along time and that's because there products are good and reliable it's not as fast as an SSD but it's really good to have for things you don't want on your SSD, it also has a 2 year warranty which is always a plus because it means the company really believes in their product. CPU Fan: A cpu fan isn't required because the case and GPU already have great cooling systems and the stock cpu fan it comes with should be powerful enough. PSU: EVGA 500 W1 80+, 500W Continuous Power Although its power efficiency is lower than something like a bronze PSU estimated at 80% its still fine for this build since the estimated power usage for a build with this GPU was around 500 watts Tech Source 800 dollar gaming pc (DDR3) Although the Tech source build is the stronger in terms of framerate and graphical performance, there was a downside it went way above my 8000dkk budget, The content creator of the video failed to mention he bought everything thing on sale, But even though the whole build was more expensive it still had great has a great case good cpu but the price to performance ratio of the gpu was just not worth it in terms of a build. CPU: Intel Core i5-4590 This is a very good quad core cpu although the i5 series is not great for intensive use, It's definitely still enough to run most programs at once if needed. Motherboard: ASRock Z97 Anniversary LGA 1150 By looking at the specs this motherboard looks great it has 6x usb 3.0 6x usb 2.0, up to 32gb of RAM and 6 SATA connectors. But this motherboard was hard to find info for and didn't seem to be a common one. For my first build i want products that have a lot of good and helpful feedback behind them to i can make an informed decision to buy it or not. GPU: Sapphire Radeon R9 290 4GB GDDR5 This A fantastic GPU with 4gb of GDDR5 memory and dual link dvi for higher refresh rates. Its an incredibly good card but does not have a great price to performance ratio, the EVGA gtx 960 ssc can easily compete despite its 2000dkk price. Case: Corsair Carbide Series Black 300R A very simple case with pretty much all you need it has dust filters for easy cleaning of each fan, compatible with ATX motherboards and extra long GPUs. It includes 2 fans pre installed and room for more if necessary it also comes with a cut out to make changing CPU cooler an easier job. All around it's a very good case with a lot of features for a low price. RAM: G.SKILL Ares Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) SSD: no SSD HDD: WD Blue 1TB Desktop Hard Disk Drive CPU Fan: Stock CPUs Are fine unless its an i7 or your you are overclocking then water cooling is the better and more efficient cooler or you could also buy an aftermarket cpu cooler. PSU: Corsair CX Series 500 Watt CPU: i5 4690k Motherboard:Asus maximus 7 hero GPU: evga gtx 960 ssc 4gb gddr5 memory Case: 300r corsair mid tower case RAM: 8gb crucial ballistix ram SSD: 120gb corsair ssd HDD: 1tb western digital CPU Fan: stock PSU: 500w corsair psu
