Teacher Tips
I use these worksheets for fun homework, early finishers, and full class lessons when we
need a fun break from our regular mathematics curriculum. My students know my clear
expectations when they are using these worksheets. You may use them in any way that you
like in your classroom, but I thought I would share how we use them in my classroom.
Students have to show their work whenever possible. I give them a scratch piece of paper,
which they staple to the worksheet. They are not allowed to guess, and they know that I will
come and check their steps to make sure they are showing all of their steps. I have a
student helper check the answers using the answer key before allowing the student to
proceed. If they have any missed problems, they re-do them on their scratch piece of
paper as well. When finished with the math work, they are then allowed to draw their
picture. The art is never used as an actual answer key, just a fun incentive to do their math!
Anytime I have not specified which color an object is (Example: a hat), the students know
they are able to color it whatever color they want.
I have a gallery wall set up with a clip where students can go place their drawings
throughout the school year. They love looking at all of the different drawings, and it changes
and matches season due to the packets and drawing subjects I give them. Parents love this
during Back to School Night because they finally get to see what their students have been
talking about, and because I have their math work stapled to the drawing they get to see all
of the hard work that went into it as well.
These products are built with differentiation in mind. Use them in whatever way works best
for your classroom!
