Rules, participation and listening:
Treat everyone, including yourself, with dignity and respect. Everyone in this class is expected to make
a positive contribution by participating in all of the assigned activities, exercises, and discussions. I
expect that you will be supportive, give feedback, and actively listen to everyone in class. Intermediate
drama is preparing you to become a member of the EPiC theatre company in Advanced Drama, if you
choose to continue in the 4 year drama program. The courage, respect, and vulnerability that we
encouraged in beginning drama should now be the norm. Any behavior that interferes with my ability to
teach or other students’ ability to learn will impact your grade.
You earn an A in this class by participating every day (warm ups, focus, being on task, working on
your acting fundamentals) and by completing all projects on time and to the best of your ability – not
holding back your group.
If you earn a B, it means that your participation needs to improve, you need to meet deadlines or not
distract from the group.
If you are earning a C, it means that you are not doing well in more than one of these categories.
If you are earning a D or an F, it is because you are interfering with other students’ abilities to learn or
my ability to teach.
Outside of class requirements:
Intermediate Drama performances - Times TBD. Tell me well in advance of any possible conflict!
See some theatre - You must see each of the shows that EPiC produces. This fall there will be a
musical, an improv show, and at least one of the other shows in the One Act Festival. Tell me well in
advance of any possible conflict!
6 hours of work in the EPiC Theatre Company each semester - This can be completed in many
different ways. Coming to work calls, ushering, working box office, or other projects can count towards
these hours. If you are in a show after school, or take on a larger responsibility such as stage managing,
the hours will be waived for the semester. Tell me well in advance of any possible conflict!
Discrimination:
There is ZERO tolerance in this space for discriminating against other students’ race, gender identity,
sexual identity, religious beliefs, etc. The space is inclusive and as you are students in an art form that is
progressive by nature, it’s incumbent upon us all that we work to make everyone feel supported, seen,
and heard.
When in doubt, follow The Four Agreements, as written by Don Miguel Ruiz:
Be Impeccable With Your Word.
Don't Take Anything Personally.
Don't Make Assumptions.
Always Do Your Best.
