Research Study Project
This project is worth 1 test grade/major grade. For each body system or major
organ covered, you will complete a typed research report following the rubric
below. You will also prepare a slideshow presentation to present to the class as
part of the overall grade. The typed report must have a proper MLA heading, font
in Times New Roman, font size 12 and must follow other MLA formatting
guidelines.
Project Rubric:
__________(10 pts) Introduction: Introduce the topic! Identify a disease, condition or issue
(such as a specific mutation) associated with this body system or organ. Inform the audience of
the following: name of the specific condition/issue, origin of the name, when was it first
discovered and by whom?
__________ (10 pts) Paragraph: Statistics for how rare or common the condition or mutation is.
Is it more prevalent among a certain group of people, certain gender, age-group, etc?
__________ (10 pts) Paragraph: How is the individual affected? What are the symptoms
associated with the condition? How is the specific organ system affected on a tissue level and
cellular level?
________(10 pts) Paragraph: Cause-What caused the condition? Is this condition genetically
inherited, environmentally obtained, or is the cause of the condition unknown?
________ (10 pts) Paragraph: Cure/Treatment- Is there a cure? Are there any medications to treat
the condition? What’s the prognosis and life expectancy for the individual? Are there surgical
options?
________ (10 pts) Paragraph: Interactions with other organ systems-Does this issue affect other
organ systems and how?
________(10 pts) Conclusion: Is there ongoing medical research or any ongoing experimental
trials? What are the future plans for any new research or testing of new treatments? Which
organizations are available to help patients, assist with treatments and provide public awareness?
