Fair use doctrine is the set of legal rules in law of United States which permits limited use of copyrighted material without seek the permission from copyright holder. It is one of the limitations to copyright that its purpose to balance the interests of copyright holders with public interest in wider distribution. Furthermore, it might be useful of creative works by allowing to be use as a defense to copyright infringement claims certain limited uses that might otherwise be considered infringement. There are some of factors of fair use such as purpose and character of use, nature of copyrighted work, amount and substantiality, and the effect upon work’s value. Besides that, there are some condition of fair use that can be example such as student projects, course reserves, sound or video clips for teaching, digitization projects and access for disabled. MOVIE REPORT Finding Forrester is a movie that tell the story about an African-American teenager name Jamal Wallace that lives in Bronx met the Pulitzer Prize-winning author name William Forrester through inappropriate event. William Forrester name have been circulated around the neighborhood with few urban legend stories about him as he always looks outside the window using binocular, hiding behind the window and never leaves his apartment since he lives in solitary due to his tough, leathery and shell life. Jamal Wallace is a high school student that gifted to basketball and also passionate into writing. One night, Jamal Wallace has been dared by his friends to sneak into William Forrester’s apartment and unfortunately, he has been caught by William Forrester which then he fled and living his backpack behind. The day he faced William Forrester because he edited Jamal’s personal writings was the day their friendship begins. Furthermore, Jamal Wallace has been offered scholarship to enter Mailor-Callow which is the prestigious private school that promised him a bright future as he will join the basketball team. The friendship bonding between Jamal Wallace and William Forrester getting better day by day as Jamal always come to Forrester’s apartment and Forrester help him to improve his writing skills. Also, William Forrester helped him in completing the assignment which then caught by his teacher, Professor Robert Crawford then accused him to plagiarize someone’s work. However, the connection that Jamal Wallace have with William Forrester have helped him dropped from plagiarism charges. Next, there are some of unethical instance that can be found in this movie. First, the scene which Jamal Wallace sneak into Forrester’s apartment during night. This is such an inappropriate and unethical act because enter someone’s house without permission can be considered as trespassing and it is a crime. Also, after Jamal entered the apartment, he took Forrester’s belongings and put in his backpack which it is also considered as stealing. Besides that, talking about someone without facts and background check also such an unethical instance. This is because it can cause misunderstanding and bring shame to someone. Second unethical instance is stereotype, which refer to black stereotype or racism. It can be seen from the scene that Professor Robert Crawford claimed Jamal Wallace plagiarized the English essay. The unsatisfied behavior by Professor Robert Crawford shows that he stereotyped someone who was black and poor make an improvement in school and great in writing. He does not believe that was Jamal Wallace original work and also, he does not want to admit that Jamal Wallace was a gifted student as he also played well in basketball. The racism is such unethical behavior because all human beings are same and have an equality. There is no difference between each other’s. Besides that, Professor Robert Crawford is not a good teacher and role model to show his students as he is someone who do not accept others’ people opinions and being toxic with other races. Also, the racism shown at the scene where Claire’s father face showed an uncomfortable and dislike expression as he gave a sign to Jamal that he does not like Jamal to be friend with her daughter as he was black. Claire’s father character shows the typical behavior of rich and white people who always look down to black people. For the last unethical instance in this movie is plagiarism. However, even though Jamal Wallace did not plagiarize his English essay, this shows that plagiarism act can be charged heavily such as expelled from school and suspended scholarship. These charges can affect someone future for example if Jamal Wallace have been expelled, his future to be a national basketball player seems shattered and he might have bad reputation due to his past. Finding Forrester is such a great movie even though I hate the ending but it seems I am not disliking the movie that much. First, I can see that William Forrester’s is someone who typically seems cruel and fierce but actually who have a good heart. The relationship between him and Jamal Wallace was actually sincerity from his heart. He takes good care of Jamal by teaching him writing. Besides that, from the scene that he helps to defend Jamal from being charged for plagiarism, it shows that despite his fear to go out, he willingly confronts everyone to help Jamal. However, the ending of this movie breaks my heart. The heartbreaking news about William Forrester, I feel sad because he has no one that blood related with him to which he gave all his fortune to Jamal. However, it shows that he thought Jamal as his family as he said that “family must not always from the same blood”. Also, the moment of announcement by the lawyer that William Forrester died because of terminal sickness but no one knows about his sickness and misery he has been through years bawl my eyes out. To be concluded, I like the movie and enjoy it very much.
