Learner Portfolio Worksheet
Learning Objective: to understand what the Learner Portfolio is, to generate ideas on how to
construct a learner portfolio and why it is important, to share ideas on what should be included
in it.
Instructions
1. Take some time, read the questions in the tasks and THINK how you would answer.
You can scribble down ideas if you like.
2. When you hear the timer ring, turn to your partner. As a PAIR, exchange your ideas on
the tasks.
3. Be prepared to SHARE with the class afterwards. Together we can clarify the Learner
Portfolio concept and inspire each other.
4. Follow-up Activity: Now do it!
TASK 1: WHAT IS IT?
What is a portfolio? (Check a dictionary if you want).
So, what do you imagine a LEARNER PORTFOLIO to be?
Why do think IB has made the learner portfolio mandatory? Can you think of at least three
benefits in keeping a learner portfolio?
TASK 2: HOW AND WHERE?
You have total freedom to use the format you prefer for your Learner Portfolio. Some options
could be a physical blank art book, OneNote, a padlet etc. You have some sample photos here
of possible portfolios. Can you think of any other options? What are the advantages or
disadvantages of each one, in your opinion?
Look at the different sections in these examples. Can you see a connection between the
sections and the IB assessments? Would you add any other sections?
TASK 3: WHAT SHOULD WE KEEP IN THE PORTFOLIO?
Select the items you think would be useful to keep in the portfolio and add more if you can:

Would it be helpful? Or is it just another way teachers pile work on students?
