My hard work ethic, people skills, and extensive experience in the entertainment industry position me as an ideal candidate for this internship. I currently attend Lansing Community College, though I plan to transfer to Michigan State University as a senior in the fall, pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. Through my coursework I have had the opportunity to hone my research skills, broaden my understanding of social issues, and refine my writing craft. From my experiences as the front man of a touring rock band, I developed powerful public speaking skills as well as the ability to keep the attention of an audience. In our seven years together, my band rose from playing sticky floored dive bars in mid-Michigan to playing on stage at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Museum in Cleveland! This feat was the highlight of my career as a musician, but it was only one of many times that my passion for music took me to great heights. I flourish on stage with the spotlight on me, but I am just as happy to blend into the crowd and silently study the art of human interaction. Writing is a passion of mine, and I believe there is a great deal of humor to be found in our day-to-day interactions. I believe my aptitude for leadership and keen observational skills would be a great asset to The Late Show team. From car washing to landscaping to telemarketing, I have held many jobs in my life. Working at a busy, understaffed carwash, I learned to think on my feet and move quickly. As the only barback at a popular downtown bar, I learned how to work well under pressure. As a telemarketer and door-to-door salesman I learned how to brush off rejection, be patient, and finish the task at hand. More than anything though, my many jobs in the service-industry taught me how to get along with people from all walks of life. The passion I have for human connection is the reason I am studying psychology. I have been watching Stephen Colbert since I was far too young to be watching Stephen Colbert. I remember being eight years old, fighting the urge to fall asleep as I waited for my dad to come home from work. When he finally arrived, he would turn on this strange show about an arrogant man in glasses, and soon my father would be doubled over laughing, wiping tears from his eyes. It was not until I grew older that I came to understand that Colbert was only playing a character, and I developed a new appreciation for the satirical genius. Working for The Late Show would not only be a life-changing opportunity for me, it would also make me a hero to my family. My parents, grandparents, siblings, aunts and uncles have loved Stephen Colbert since he was a Elijah N. I believe that I could bring a unique, unadulterated perspective to The Late Show, and my unmatched work ethic will push me to go above and beyond to ensure a smooth execution of all work-related duties. Thank you for your consideration, Elijah N. Hoene
