Book Club in Four Meetings SOLSVIK

advertisement
AP Literature & Composition FourMeeting Book Club
Introduction: Your group will meet four times to discuss your chosen
book. Below are the instructions for each of the four meetings.
Additionally, each individual student will have some projects to complete
independent of the class meetings.
Leadership for Each Meeting
 Each group member will need to be the leader for at least one of the four meetings.
o If you have less than four group members, you will have to decide how to complete the
tasks for the remaining meetings.
o If you have more than four group members, you will have to assign more than one
leader for a meeting. Each leader will individually complete the leader tasks for that
particular meeting but will co-lead the meeting with the other designated leader.
Leadership Tasks (for each meeting)
 Create a 30 point reading comprehension quiz for your section of the text. The quiz should be
a mixture of objective questions (fill-in-the-blank, matching, multiple choice, true or false, etc.)
and written response questions (character development, theme, literary devices, key
moments/scenes/quotes, etc.)
o You will score the quizzes for your group outside of class and turn them in to me (along
with an answer key) for inclusion in the gradebook by the next book club meeting.
 Prepare discussion questions to present to your group and to discuss together.
o 3 Level Two questions (INCLUDE YOUR ANSWERS)
 These may be about character or theme development, use of literary devices,
author’s stylistic choices, key moments or quotes, point of view, etc.
o 1 Level Three question (INCLUDE YOUR ANSWER)
 This question is related to the themes or ideas that the text brings up
o Turn in a copy of your discussion questions (with your answers) prior to the meeting.
Individual Tasks for Each Group Member (Due upon completion of your book and meetings)
 Complete an evaluation form for each meeting and turn it in the day after the meeting.
 Complete a Theme Flowchart for your chosen novel.
 Maintain a Dialectical Journal for your book as you read (*see sample Dialectical Journal on
Moodle as a guide). You should have at least 8 different quotes on your Dialectical Journal
with thoughtful reactions. Make sure your quotes are extracted from the beginning, middle,
and end of the text (not just concentrated on one section of the text).
