Problem Statement:
The distinct phases of growth of a Start-Up; what are the problems faced
by them at each phase and how do they tackle them to survive.
Team Composition:
Aiman Baloch
Pursuing MBA from IIM Sambalpur, B.com fresher from Mumbai,
professional french speaker, 4 years of teaching experience, has a keen
interest in marketing.
Ritwik Giri
Electronics engineer with 2 years of work-ex in IT. Social media enthusiast
who has a keen interest in the field of analytics.
Srinath S
Mechanical engineer with 21 months of work ex in the manufacturing
sector. Interested in analytics.
Viswanath Das
An MBA candidate at IIM Sambalpur has graduated from MNIT, Jaipur in
Chemical Engineering. He also has a work experience of 2 years at CT &
GST, Sambalpur Range. He is interested in General Management.
Yashi Sharma
MBA student, Commerce graduate from Lucknow, an animal lover, has a
keen interest in photoshop, designed animated videos for YouTube
channel, social servant, raised critical issues

Online food delivery Industry - Swiggy
Why the Online Food Delivery Industry?
The food delivery industry faces various challenges - HR, app/website formation, customer
acquisition, affiliate restaurants, and communication challenges in all the phases of
development.
Plan Proposal:
● Identify the phases of startup development - ideation, concepting, commitment,
validation, scaling, and establishing concerning the food delivery industry - by the 11th
session
● Identify problems faced in each stage - by the 11th session
● Organization structure of startup - by 14th session
● Examine the measures taken by the company at different phases - by the 14th session
● Identify the techniques/models to be applied - by the 17th session
● Swiggy at present - by the 17th session
● Provide recommendations - by the 17th session

Discussion as per the items
We discussed the startups formed in online-food delivery systems. We discussed the journey of
FoodPanda and Swiggy. After having a thorough discussion, we concluded that since FoodPanda
failed before reaching the growth phase, Swiggy would be a better option for understanding the
phases of a startup from the initial stage to the growth stage.

We did some secondary research on the different stages of startup and problems faced in each
stage. We made some exhibits accordingly. The raw data was then phrased and organized as
discussed.

Discussion as per the items
There was some unfinished data from the previous target w.r.t. Problems in each phase. It was
decided that the assigned person responsible for that data will work upon it again. Further, it
was decided that after the problems at each phase are identified, measures taken to combat
those problems will be analyzed. The new target was distributed and assigned to each member

We researched and brainstormed about the measures falling under each phase and the
organizational structure of a startup. We decided to go with a flat organizational structure
because of the limited availability of resources in startups. The measures were collected from
credible sources and categorized in various phases.

We brainstormed about what model to use and finally decided to go with the McKinsey 7S
model. We chose this model because it can be used to examine how different parts of an
organization work together. We also discussed the organization structure and made a few
changes.

Brainstormed about what steps can be adopted by startups to overcome the challenges.
Discussed about how Swiggy is doing today and how they have transformed their business over
time. Decided on the content that is to be included in the report. Collected data about
McKinsey’s model of 7S with respect to Swiggy. Required exhibits were added.
