What do you want to be when you grow up
The following essays were submitted by fifth-grade students at Live
Oak Elementary School.

Barbara Gildo
When I grow up, I want to be a professional soccer player. I know
it’s not one of the best things because it is a sport, but I love it. I
play soccer right now, so that’s why. But I want to do something I
like.
My dad wants me to be a nurse because he was a doctor, but sorry,
Dad, I want to follow my dreams.
My dad understands because he plays soccer as well, but I know he
wants me to do something good in life. I want to be a professional
soccer player because I love to play this sport. I know that I’m not
that good yet, but I push myself because I want to be the first
professional soccer player in my family.
I also want to travel and meet new people and new teams. You also
get paid a good amount of money for a sport like this. My dad
always tells me, if I want to do something good in life, I have to go
to school, study and always listen to my teacher.

Perla Lorenzo
When I grow up, I want to become a lawyer. I want to become a
lawyer because if one of my family members gets into jail, I could
be their lawyer and try to bail them out.
To become a lawyer, you have to study for a lot of years, but it
doesn’t matter to me. I want to become a lawyer no matter what. I
will keep trying and never give up. I want to help people get out of
the lies and cases the opponent or opponents are charging and
accusing them of. To be a lawyer, you have to be brave to confront
any case they’re going to be charging your client.

Ian Seeley
When I grow up, I want to be a paleontologist.
I first loved dinosaurs when I was 5 years old.
My favorite dinosaur is the oviraptor because it has a cool crest on
its head, a little like the pterodactyl.
Another dinosaur I got into was the velociraptor. It was very
aggressive. I got interested when I found out they had a cool claw
that they used. They even traveled in packs. That is why I want to
be an paleontologist and learn more about dinosaurs.

When I grow up I want to be a dentist and an actor/singer. I asked
my parents what job that you can make a lot of money. They said a
lawyer and a dentist. I wanted to be a dentist. I also love acting and
singing. I’m getting good grades in science, which is part of being a
dentist. I took many classes for acting and singing. The jobs that I
want, I’m an expert at them.
Enrique Flores
When I grow up, I want to be an actor. When I was 8 years old, I
got this acting class, but then something happened, and I haven’t
done it since. I would be really excited if I could do that again and
be on TV.
So when I grow up, I want to be famous. That has been my dream
since I was 6 years old. I also want to be a famous singer. If all of
that doesn’t work out, I want to be a teacher. I have been inspired
by all of the teachers I’ve had in the past years. They were all so
nice and did a good job doing what they do. So all I want to do are
those things.

I want to be a professional soccer player. My dad was kind of a
professional soccer player. He inspired me to play soccer.
I started playing when I was 4. I want to have a good career, make a
lot of money and be on a Mexican team called Club America, my
favorite team of all the other teams.

When I grow up I want to be in the Army so I can protect my
country. I think it will be a good job because I’ve always wanted to
handle an AK-47. I want to represent my country and become a
general. I also want to be in the Army because I want to drive a
tank. That’s why I want to be in the Army.
Lauryn Adams
Hi, I’m Lauryn. When I grow up, I want to work at a salon. I think
it is cool how they paint your nails, and how they make the fake
nails, and how they dry and shine the nails by using a black light.
My favorite thing to do is paint the nails any color. Also, there are
stickers for the nails. I think it will be fun to work at a salon. I love
to get my nails painted and I can’t wait until I’m old enough to get
a job and start training and start my future.

When I grow up, I want to be in the Navy because my uncle was in
the Navy. I want to go on an aircraft carrier. I want to use an MG4
gun with a grip or a dragon thermal scoop. I kind of want to fly as a
Blue Angel. I have a model in my room.
Kaleb Quesada
I want to be a lawyer, not just because my dad’s a lawyer, but I like
the whole concept of it. You get to defend other people and get lots
of money, but I also want to work with animals. I really don’t know
what I want to be when I grow up.
Jacob Manly
When I grow up I want to be a Major League Baseball player
because I have been playing since I was 3-and-a-half years old.
To me, baseball is my life. If I could practice every day, I would.
My plan is to get drafted my last year of high school, and then
during off-season, go to college. My uncle got drafted to the Major
League but couldn’t go. One day, I want my family to see me on
TV. That’s what I want to be when I grow up.
Blake Kuykendall
When I grow up, I wanna be a doctor. I want to be a doctor because
I can save people’s lives. Say someone’s heart wasn’t pumping
blood — if there were no doctors, he or she would die. If there were
doctors, they would save his or her life. I just really want to save
people’s lives because they might be 3-years-old, they might not

When I grow up I want to be a professional soccer player. I want to
be a professional soccer player because I love soccer. It is my
favorite sport. I have played soccer for a long time.
My dad loves soccer, too. He is the one who taught me how to play
soccer when I was little. I even went to see a professional soccer
game at a real soccer stadium. I still play soccer with my friend
Alexa.
I will always try my best to achieve my goal of being a professional
soccer player. That is what I want to be when I grow up.

When I grow up, I want to be a chef or a masseuse. The reason I
want to be a chef is because I love to cook. If I go over to my
grandmother’s and she’s cooking, I always ask her, “Do you need
help?” and she always says yes. She also says that I’ll make a great
chef someday.
I also want to be a masseuse because after my grandma comes
home from a long day at work, her shoulders hurt, so she asks me
to rub her shoulders, and after I do, she is very relaxed. That’s why
I want to be a chef or a masseuse.

When I grow up, I’d like to be a doctor. The reason I would be a
doctor is that I’d like to save people’s lives if I have an opportunity
to. I love life science and I love to learn about all the different
systems in the body.
Once when my dad got really sick, I knew just how to treat his
sickness. He had diverticulosis. Diverticulosis is a sickness in your
large intestine and your small intestine. This situation made me
realize that I should become a doctor.
I was thinking about what job I should have when this situation
came by, but now I know that I want to be a doctor.
