We hope that you will find this module both interesting and rewarding. We shall do our best to make your study successful. We trust that you will enjoy your studies! 2 OVERVIEW OF ZUL1507 2.1 Purpose The purpose of this module is to promote multilingualism and intercultural communication in isiZulu as a Second Additional Language for student teachers with no or little background knowledge of the language. Students who have completed this module successfully will be able to communicate on an elementary level with speakers of isiZulu. They will be equipped with basic reading, listening and comprehension skills with emphasis on listening and speaking skills. 2.2 Outcomes For this module, you will have to master several outcomes: • • • Specific outcome 1: Acquire basic vocabulary with the purpose to conduct meaningful and culturally sensitive conversations on an elementary level in everyday situations. Specific outcome 2: Utilise words and phrases correctly in the formation of simple sentences by engaging in simple dialogues. Specific outcome 3: 3 • • Demonstrate the ability to make statements, to negate statements, and to ask and answer questions. Specific outcome 4: Reproduce correct pronunciation of phrases and sentences.
