“Future of the Civil Engineering Profession in the Philippines”
this topic in the webinar widens our perspective about the
digitalization and enhancement of technology in our country due to
the COVID-19 pandemic with the help of the speaker, Engr. Ramon
Allado, President and CEO of Allado Construction Company, Inc. and
President of American Concrete Institute, Philippine Chapter.
Based on Engr. Allado, he stated that the future of the Civil
Engineering profession is fully secured for the next 20 years, which
is a short-term plan. He discussed the effects and expected changes
in the Civil Engineering industry from the past 110 years when Civil
Engineering profession was introduced. He also stated that the trends
are a concept of millennials that all have to adapt, to embrace, and
to deal with in the upcoming years to transforming our ways in
shaping the future. The top 5 main trends Civil Engineering
specializations that he discussed are: Building Energy Conservation,
Green Architecture, Water Resources Engineering, Geotechnical
Engineering and Municipal Engineering.
Due to the advanced technology increasing in demand, the
industry is forced to be efficient, to integrate, to plan more in
dealing with projects related to construction, to grab better
opportunities than other professions. The factors that Civil will be
dealing with are: Climate Disasters, Lack of resources, built-up
communities, world that will be digital in many ways, and Quantum
computing new materials. He also explained about the TATAG at TAPAT
2020-2030 action plan and road map, wherein digitalization is one of
the expected things that will be encountered. In implementing the
resources, the Philippines is lacking of various resources, so they
are creating reservoirs in order to preserve the water resources for
the Agricultural means. The medical, digital and engineering sectors
are combined to produce a better system due to the COVID-19 pandemic;
these changes will be a result to evolve and to expands the ways on
how people think, work, and plan in a certain situation.
Lastly, he answered a question regarding of students who wants
to go to an On-the-job training, he explained that the students will
find means in applying for OJT, and the individuals that beyond the
scope of Civil Engineering can pursue their passion and interest, and
due to the technical background, they can pursue another career, like
the business industry.
