• An improved drinking water source is one
that by the nature of its construction
adequately protects the source from
outside contamination, in particular from
fecal matter.
• Located within a 15 minute walk-there
and back.
• Sustainable
• Available all year or with an alternate plan.

• An improved sanitation facility is one that
hygienically separates human excreta from
human contact.
• Separate boys/girls/teacher facilities.
• Meets, at minimum, the government
standards for quantity per student and type.
• Considers changing rooms for menstrual
health management and disabled students.
