It will be limited to 1.5 hours per week ONLY! 8 Engineering Statics Email: – You are encouraged to use discussion boards to ask questions, – However, you may want to use the email to directly contact the lecturer, – Expect a response within 2-3 business days (i.e. lecturers won’t answer email during weekends and public holidays). 9 Engineering Statics Assessment: KAA110 full pass… To achieve a full pass in this unit, you must meet all the following: 1. Attain all the Intended Learning Outcomes. 2. Achieve an overall mark of 50%. 3. Satisfy all threshold criteria, including submission of laboratory experiment reports. 4. Your mark for your examination and mid-semester tests must be at or above 35%. 10 Engineering Statics Assessment: Student Engagement Activates (SEA) SEA are designed to monitor and support students that might be struggling to meet the minimum expectations of this unit. ‾ All students are required to complete 2 SEA at the beginning of the semester, ‾ Students who fail to meet these expectations will be contacted by student support officers, ‾ SEA 1: is simply a yes/no question which gives links to support services. 11 Conceptual Design and Communication Assessment: SEA1 SEA 1: is simply a yes/no question which gives links to support services. This activity is due on WEEK 1. To access SEA1: 1. go to unit home in MyLO, 2. Click on the Assessment \ Quizzes tab 3. You will be directed to the Quiz List page 4. Click in Student Engagement Task 1 5. Complete and submit the activity 6. You will then be granted access to the Learning Hub 12 Conceptual Design and Communication Assessment: SEA2 SEA 2: In this activity you’ll need to submit a photo of a real-life rigid body(ies). The photo must be labelled to show the vectors acting on the rigid body(ies) This Activity will be made available on the start of Week 2 and is due by the end of WEEK 2. Don’t panic! Examples will be given by the lecturer. 13 Engineering Statics Assessment: How will you be assessed? The assessment weights for 2021 are: – Three labs (total 20% of overall unit mark, two 5% each and one 10%) – Two class tests (total 20% of overall unit mark, 10% each) – Ten problem solving activities as quizzes (total 10% of overall unit mark,1% each) – One final exam (50% of overall unit mark) - All labs must be completed and a report submitted to pass the unit. 14 Engineering Statics Mastering Engineering 15 Engineering Statics Mastering Engineering Use the link provided on the unit’s MyLO homepage to register 16 Engineering Statics What you will learn: Preliminary teaching schedule Week: 1: Introduction 2: Vectors 3: Forces and Equilibrium 4: Moments 5: Distributed Loads and Hydrostatics 6: Equilibrium of Rigid Bodies 7: Structural Analysis 8: Frames and Machines 9: Internal Forces and Moments I 10: Internal Forces II 11: Friction 12: Area Properties and Moment of Inertia + LAB I + LAB II + LAB III 18 Engineering Statics Work Health & Safety (WH&S): WH&S is about keeping you and those around you safe. You will often be working in a shared space with others nearby conducting other activities. 1. Complete the online course “Laboratory and Workshop Inductions 2021”. 1.1. Please try searching for “Laboratory and Workshop Inductions 2021” using the https://mylo.utas.edu.au/d2l/le/discovery/view/ 1.2. After you enroll, the unit should appear in your Mylo profile under “2021YR” under “My Units”. 1.3. Read through the learning material and then take the quizs 19 Engineering Statics Work Health & Safety (WH&S): 2. Obtain your certificate, print it and bring to the lab sessions 3. Purchase the required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): protective capped footwear, safety glasses, white lab coats, long pants 4. Read and understand the risk assessment forms for each of the labs and sign at the start of each lab session (forms will be provided by the lab demonstrator). YOU WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO PARTICIPATE IN THE LABS WITHOUT COMPLETING THE ABOVESTEPS 25 Engineering Statics Things to do this week (you’d better start today!): • Log on to MyLO, • Complete your WHS course and print your certificate as explained previously (this is required by Week 5), • In MyLO, visit KAA110 page and read the unit outline, • After that, complete the first Student Engagement Activity to unlock the unit content, • Go through these instructions again, • Go through the lecture notes, • Sign up for one of the four tutorials, • Register for Mastering Engineering, • Purchase your PPE, • Get ready for your next lecture! 26
