A & B. The Percentage of Elementary Students in Carigara Leyte who are in a
romantic relationship
C. Background of the Study
The young generation nowadays is really into something sensitive. If they want something,
they usually get the desire to have it and most of them gone into dating.
Ideally, a teenager’s life should be spent in making good friends, having great times with
them, studying hard, crushing on a lot of people and other pleasant things. A relationship at such
a tender age, basically exposes them to the kind of anxiety and trauma that married people go
through! Falling into a relationship erases the brighter and the more important aspects of a
teenager’s life.
The researchers want to find out the percentage of the elementary students in Carigara,
Leyte who engage their selves in an early relationship specifically in grade 6 level.
The researchers want to know the students’ views, opinions, reactions, and problems about
this. They choose to study this topic as it is a very controversial issue among elementary students
in this generation.
D. The Problem Statement
This study is to determine whether the Grade 6 students of some elementary schools located in the
Municipality of Carigara, province of Leyte are already in a romantic relationship during the
school year 2019-2020.
E. The Purpose Statement
The main purpose of this study is to know how many percentage of selected Grade 6 students in
some elementary schools in Carigara Area are in a romantic relationship.
F. Research Questions
Main Question:
How many students in some elementary schools in Carigara Leyte are already in a romantic relationship?
Sub Questions:
What are the ages of these students entering in a relationship?
Do the parents know that their children are in a relationship?
What are the reasons of the students in entering in a relationship?
G. The Scope of the research
This research study focused specifically on some elementary school located in the Municipality of
Carigara, Province of Leyte. These said schools are selected based mainly on the proximity of its
location to the researchers and on the kind of the education that they offer to its clientele. The
school stimulates the student's rights to quality, equitable, culture-based and complete basic
education.
The investigation is conducted to determine if the selected grade 6 students are already in romantic
relationships from the School Year 2019-2020. The data was taken from one sections of each
school. Each section will be stratified randomly selecting more than half of the class for the
answering of the survey.
H. The Delimitation
In this study, while the size of the study was not large enough to conclude reasonable assumptions,
the sample data was obtained from the selected Grade 6 students only in a particular geographic
location and may not have been indicative of the larger population. The study would have been
more comprehensive and far reaching if it covered all the Grade 6 elementary students of the said
town which would have been provided more data for analysis. However, this would entail more
time, money and manpower which the researchers do not have. Moreover, the validity of the survey
was relied on the students' genuine and thoughtful response. The sample size for the study was
relatively small and therefore the findings cannot be generalized to other schools in the area.
I. The Significance of the study
The result of this study would help the elementary students be aware of their actions if they’re
engaging in early relationship. The concluded data would also make the students who are involved
in romantic relationship cognizant on what will be the result of their actions. That is why here are
some importance on how this study helps the:
Students - For them to be aware that this issue is alarming especially to them.
Teachers - For them to help and understand the feelings of their students.
Parents - For them to know how to cope with their teenagers in love and to give them guidance
and protection as well.
CHAPTER 2: REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE
In order to understand the research problem, it is imperative to undertake a survey of earlier
studies. This would enable the researcher to fill the gaps in research and extend it further. This
chapter focuses on romantic relationship among unmarried youth as the present study aims to
understand the psychosocial determinants of romantic inclination among them. In this chapter
studies done on the development of romantic relationship attachment style, interpersonal
attraction, media and peer influence on romantic relationships are presented.
Developing a romantic relationship is considered as an elating experience by many youth. Premarital romantic relationships develop through the course of adolescence and young adolescents
can characterize romantic relationships with passion and commitment which were consistent with
adult’s view of love (Connolly, Craig, Goldberg & Pepler 1999).
Over a period of time they develop strong beliefs about love and they endorse that involvement
in romantic relationship conquers all aspects of life (Knox, Marty, Schacht & Zusman, 1999).
During teenage years there was a significant increase in behaviors related to romantic interests and
analyzing from a lifespan perspective, romantic experiences could represent a singular phase of
meaningful development spanning across periods (Collins, Hennighawen, Schrnit & Sroufe,
1997). It was also understood that adolescents functioning in teenage romantic relationships were
contributed by caregiver-child and peer relationships from early stages including preschool and
middle adulthood.
Attachment has long been studied in the context of close relationship (Hazan and Shaver 1987)
were the pioneers in relating attachment paradigm to romantic relationship and conceptualized
romantic love as an attachment process. According to them romantic love is a “biosocial process
by which affection bonds are formed between adult lovers, just as affection bonds are formed
earlier in life between human infants and their parents”. They empirically tested these
conceptualizations and found that relatively in adulthood and in infancy three similar attachment
styles prevailed namely secure, avoidant and anxious-ambivalent styles. Those adults with these
three styles of attachment differed in the way they experienced romantic love.
Studies linking these three attachments with family relationships revealed that those individuals
with secure attachment styles reported considerable positive perceptions of their family in the early
ages. Childhood separation from their mother and mistrust of others was mostly expressed by
avoidant. Subjects with anxious-ambivalent attachment style than avoidant were less expected to
acknowledge their parents as supportive and also they displayed lack of independence and a desire
for deep committed relationship. Moreover, attachment style could be strongly associated with
various form of love (Feeney & Noller, 1990). Studies examining transfer of attachment among
youth identified that parents are the primary attachment figures but were later in the course of
shifting attachment related functions to their peers that included best friends and romantic partners.
This shift increased with the duration of the relationship (Fraley, Davis & Shaver, 1997).
Questionnaires is a series of written questions a participant answers. This method gathers
responses to questions that are essay or agree/neutral/disagree style. (Shaver 1987).
Interviews is questions posed to an individual to obtain information about him or her. This type of
survey is like a job interview, with one person asking another a load of questions (Pepler 1999).
Surveys is a brief interviews and discussions with individuals about a specific topic. Yes, survey
is also a specific type of survey, to make things even more confusing. A survey is a quick interview,
with the surveyor asking only a few questions (Pepler 1999).
The researcher utilized the descriptive method using quantitative approaches in gathering
information about the present condition. (Sanchez 1980) define descriptive research as going
beyond mere gathering and tabulation of data. It involves the element of interpretation with the
meaning or significance of what is described .Thus, description is often combined with comparison
and contrast involving measurement, classification, interpretation and evaluation.
According to (Manuel and Medel 1976), descriptive research involves the description, recording,
analysis and interpretation of the present nature, composition, or process of phenomena. The focus
is on the prevailing conditions, on how a person, group, or thing behaves or functions at the time
of the study.
Chapter 3: Methodology
Research Design
This study used the descriptive method of research to determine who are in the Grade 6
students are in a romantic relationship in the S.Y. 2019-2020. It would see if dependent variables
were significant factors in influencing the students in having a romantic relationship. This
descriptive research would use quantitative methods to assess the feedback from the respondents.
The descriptive research involves collecting data in order to test hypotheses or answer questions
concerning the current status of the subject of the study. Descriptive data are typically collected
through a questionnaire survey, an interview, or observation. Since one is generally asking
questions that have not been asked before, instruments usually have to be developed for specific
studies. A major problem further complicating descriptive research is lack of response-failure of
subjects to return questionnaires or attend scheduled meetings.
Sampling Design
The sampling design used is stratified simple random sampling. It is a subset of
individually chosen from a large set (population). It is unbiased surveying technique and basic type
of sampling, since it can be a component of other more complex sampling methods. The principle
of random sampling, is that it has the same probability of being chosen.
Instrumentation
The researchers used a researcher-made questionnaire in gathering the necessary data to
achieve the core objective of the revision. A self-administered question was distributed to the
selected Grade 6 students. The questionnaire given to the grade 6 students aimed to assess if
they’re in a romantic relationship.
Data Gathering Procedure
The researchers followed proper protocol in the conduct of the study. First, the researchers made
a letter to the research adviser. Then the researchers asked permission from the principal of the
school to conduct the research. Upon approval, the questionnaire was administered by the
researchers to the respondents in their school campus. Lastly, the researchers contrast the results.
Through the survey results, the researchers can now calculate the general problem.
Data Analysis
In analyzing and understanding the data collected from the study, the following quantity will
be employed:
To answer the questions in the study, how many percentage of elementary students are in a
romantic relationship.
Chapter IV: RESULTS AND DISCUSSION
This chapter contains the presentation, analysis and interpretation of data about the problems stated
in chapter one. It further decodes the most imperative knowledge understandings necessary for
drawing conclusions and recommendations. This part describes the reason of entering romantic
relationship at an early age.
The data gathered from the Grade 6 students of Cassidy Elementary School, Congressman Alberto
T. Aguja Memorial Central School Elementary School, Jugaban Elementary School, Ponong
Elementary School and Guindapunan Elementary School. From Cassidy elementary school there
are 78 students composed of 36 male students and 42 female students who were able to answer the
survey questionnaire, from Congressman Alberto T. Aguja Memorial Central Elementary School
there are 90 students composed of 48 female students and 42 male students who were able to
answer the survey questionnaire, from Jugaban Elementary School there are 90 students composed
of 46 female students, 41 male students and 3 students who didn’t put their gender are the only
participants who were able to answer the survey questionnaire, from Ponong Elementary School
there are 45 students composed of 17 female students ,20 male students and 8 students who didn’t
put their gender are the only participants who were able to answer the survey questionnaire, from
Guindapunan Elementary School there are 43 students composed of 21 female students and 22
male students who were able to answer the survey questionnaire. In overall, there are 346 students
who were able to answer the survey questionnaire.

Reasons for entering in a romantic relationship? In overall, there are 11 students who answered
attention, 7 students answered curiosity and family problem, and 3 students answered peer
influence and other reasons, 3 students who didn’t answer. It means that elementary students is
entering romantic relationship for the reason that they need attention.
Chapter 5: Summary, Conclusions, and Recommendations
This chapter summarizes the result of the study followed by the conclusion based on the findings
and recommendation for the percentage of elementary students in Carigara, Leyte who are in a
romantic relationship.
Summary:
In general, this study aims to determine for the percentage of elementary students in Carigara, Leyte
who are in a romantic relationship in terms of Attention, Curiosity, Family Problem, Peer Pressure,
and Trend. Analysis also presented on which factors have the greatest impact on the decision
making of the respondents.
The study conducted in some elementary schools located in the Municipality of Carigara, Province
of Leyte. The researchers used a stratified random sampling method in concluding a research from
the three sections of the Grade 6 students.
Findings
Based on the analysis and interpretation of the data gathered, the following answers drawn;
1, The Cong. Alberto T. Aguja Memorial Central School has the most students who are currently
in a romantic relationship among all the schools included.
2. Most students entering in s relationship at Grade 6. While others answered at Grade 5, 4, 3, 2.
3. The ages of the students who entered in a romantic relationship are mostly 11 years old and
below.
4. The students who are in a romantic relationship answered no, regarding if they’re parents know
that they are in a relationship.
5. The most students answered that they’re been in a romantic relationship for the 1 month.
Whereas, others answered that it’s been 1 year, 2 years, and 1 week that they entered in a romantic
relationship.
6. The top choices that the Grade 6 students chose why they’re in a romantic relationship are the
Attention, Curiosity, and Family Problem.
Conclusion:
The Following are the finishes of this study:
1. The Percentage of Elementary Students in Carigara, Leyte who are in a romantic
relationship are about 12% of all the students who participated in this study.
2. Attention, Curiosity, and Family Problem are the top three chosen reasons of the students.
3. The students are not fully aware about what will be the consequences in entering in a
romantic relationship.
Recommendations
Given the findings and conclusion, the following recommendations were put forward:
1. Students should know the consequences on having a romantic relationship at early age.
2. Students should also tell their parents what is going in their life.
3. Parents should look out their sons and daughters of what they’re going through.
4. Students should take advice from professionals or their teachers because they have better
experience in life than them.
5. Students must focus on their studies because they’re too young for that thing called “love”.
