FAQs
Individual Graduation Committee (IGC) Guidance for Evaluating Student Projects
1. What score is needed to determine whether a student has successfully met the criteria of the IGC
project.
See table below.
2. Can students who receive special education services receive an Individual Graduation Committee
review?
Yes, if a student receives special education services the special education department
recommends the special education case manager be a part of the Individual Graduation
Committee.
3. Are students who receive special education services eligible to receive an Individual Graduation
Committee review?
When a student receives special education services, the student’s ARD committee determines
whether the student is required to achieve satisfactory performance on the EOC assessments. If
the ARD committee determines that a student is not required to achieve satisfactory performance
on the EOC assessments, the student is considered to be in compliance with assessment
requirements under TEC §39.025 and an IGC review would not be necessary.
4. Can a student who receives special education services receive the benefit of the Individual
Graduation Committee review and graduate on the Recommended High School Program
(RHSP)?
Due to the change in assessment requirements applicable to students in general education as a
result of SB 149, the current rule will be amended to provide that if a student who receives special
education services has satisfactorily completed credit requirements for graduation under the
RHSP specified in Chapter 74, as applicable, without modifications to content and the student
achieved satisfactory performance on at least three EOC assessments, the student may be
awarded an RHSP diploma.
5. What steps should be taken if a student plagiarizes work in their project?
EIA Local states: Academic dishonesty includes cheating or copying the work of another student,
plagiarism, and unauthorized communication between students during an examination. The
determination that a student has engaged in academic dishonesty shall be based on the
judgment of the classroom teacher or another supervising professional employee, taking into
consideration written materials, observation, or information from students.
Please follow the recommended actions in the Dallas ISD Student Code of Conduct - Cheating
or Copying the work of another is defined as a Level I offense.
6. Short answer questions were removed from the English I and II End-of-Course exams, so
why do the English I and II projects both include a short answer question?
The English I and II short answer projects are meant to demonstrate mastery of the ELAR TEKS
SEs for both courses, and these standards call for students to read a variety of texts and to write
analytical essays about them including comparisons of different genres. The reading and writing
tasks included with the English I and II short answer projects require careful consideration of
rigorous texts followed by thoughtful written analysis. Mastery of these tasks should be one good
indicator of college and career readiness.
