Good morning, one and all! I am Khushi Joshi, and today, I am going to talk about “Values that would present an optimistic display of a better nation of tomorrow.”
“Education without values, as useful as it is, seems rather to make man a more clever devil.” – C.S. Lewis
As our values are the core to who we are as human beings, they are also the easiest way to identify and connect with others in meaningful ways. Think about it – most political campaigns are based on values. Barack Obama’s 2008 election campaign galvanized millions of youth behind two very clear values – hope and change.
We face tough decisions every day. As a student, I encounter several circumstances each day which test my patience, my character and my peace of mind. For me, my values guide me and shape my priorities and reactions. They serve as my markers to tell me if my life is heading in the right direction and if it is turning out the way I want it to.
Regardless if we recognize them or not, values do naturally exist. Our lives can become less stressful, and more productive, when we acknowledge our personal values – and then make the attempt to live by and honour these values regardless of the circumstances we encounter.
Honesty: Honesty should be the bedrock of your foundation, as it will define who you are before you even allow others to know more about you. If you always deal in the truth, you’ll live a life with far less worry. You can use your analytical mind to think of new ideas, rather than lies and excuses. Honest intentions in speech and action gain the attention and respect of others.          Confidence: As I am going to speak about confidence, I am going to tell you about one of the mottos which I follow, which is: “I say if I’m beautiful. I say if I’m strong. You will not determine my story – I will.” A major component of confidence is the value you place on yourself. Confidence is about the faith you have in your abilities, the person you are, and how you view your most important relationship – the one with yourself. Confidence keeps me balanced and grounded, and it gives so much definition to the core of who I am. Confidence tells the story of who we truly are in the most authentic way possible. It is our representation of the way we want to be seen and how we want to see ourselves.
“When your values are clear to you, making decisions becomes easier.” – Roy E. Disney
Let us encourage the generosity which is typical of the young and help them to work actively in building a better world. Youth do not solely need material things. They need to have non-material values such as spirituality, generosity, solidarity, perseverance, fraternity, and joy.
