Scholars argued that there is a need for more collaboration within the disciplines of the social sciences and a practical application of the different social science disciplines. This new approach to understand and solve personal, community, or societal issues through the use of the social science is the main focus of the applied social sciences. Applied social sciences use different concepts and theoretical models and theories of the social science disciplines apply social science knowledge to understand society and address different personal and social problems and issues. The social sciences refers to the various disciplines that study society and examine how people interact and develop culture. It is a big umbrella of disciplines that include history, political sciences, sociology, psychology, economics, geography, demography, anthropology and others. The applied social sciences, on the other hand, was developed as a response to the compartmentalization of the social sciences knowledge that was common during the late 90s and until the end of the twentieth century Scholars argued that there is a need for more collaboration within the disciplines of the social sciences. This means that the different fields of the social sciences must effectively work together in addressing issues. This multidisciplinary approach to the study of different issues in society is the main focus of the applied social sciences. Applied social sciences use to barrow different concepts, theoretical models, and theories of the social science disciplines which can help them understand society and the different problems and issues that it faces. The applied social sciences can also provide alternative solutions of these diverse societal problems (Gouldner, 1989). Students who peruse courses on the applied social sciences give them sufficient background and training to have careers in counseling, social work, and communication. These careers give practitioners opportunities to help underprivileged, marginalized, and the voiceless sectors of society like the poor and the indigenous peoples to improve their conditions and protect their rights. Graduates of applied social sciences can also work in nongovernmental organizations, historical sites and museums, and government agencies. They can also find jobs in the fields of market research, public policy analysis, government research, public relations, and human resources.
