Part 1 Email that informs a. Audience Analysis The primary goal of my email is to help students overcome their anxiety of using technologies to take their course at TRU. My audience is first year domestic & international students who are registered for CMNS 1290 for Winter 2021. I perceive the students someone who were expecting a normal face to face class with the instructor. But now they have no option but to take other modes of course study which they are not familiar with. The main concern of the students would be how to keep up with the pace of teaching, doing assignments, quizzes, most importantly how to communicate with their instructor. And if these concerns are not addressed then the student would leave the course or wait for next semester. b. Email From: 7820@mytru.ca To: winter2021students@tru.ca Date: October 7, 2020 Subject: The alternative to face to face class Hi Everyone, Congratulations for starting your college journey with TRU this Winter. All of you must be excited to start your courses on-campus but unfortunately, we now know that this winter there will be no on-campus classes. But as a 3rd year student at TRU I would like to reassure you and clear all the apprehensions that you may have in taking the course through other forms. At first, I was wary of learning and taking course virtually because even I had never done this before. But studying online from last one year I never felt missing oncampus classes. Our primary mode of learning would be online platform named “Moodle”, which is available 24x7 to us. In Moodle we have different ways to learn in the course such as 1. Dedicated Course Page: Each course has a dedicated page in order to have separate defined space and all the course resources are organized here. 2. Video Lectures: Instructors provide recorded lecture for the chapter at the beginning of every week. 3. Power-point Presentations: To accompany the video lectures, instructors provide power point presentation slides for each chapter explaining different concepts with examples. 4. Documents: Some of the study course material such as reference letters, essays emails and pdf documents related to course content are also available. 5. Assignments & Quiz: All the assignments and quiz are submitted through “Moodle” drop box which is easy and simple. 6. Deadlines: In “Moodle” the deadlines of quiz, assignment and exams dates, which I feel is very helpful, are mentioned which also serves as a reminder for due date. 7. Forums: Whenever you feel like to share, discuss or ask anything in the class, you can put that on the forums and get the answers from fellow student and instructor. For any question and doubts you can always send an email to the instructors. And in my experience, they have always replied promptly. I find recorded lectures very useful as you can play them repeatedly to understand the concept and study at your pace. The only downside of studying this way is you don’t get to meet fellow students for physical study experience which I know is lot more fun. So, I really hope that this knowledge clears any doubts or anxiety that you have for taking course virtually this winter. For any questions or support, you can always email me.
