Nursery Rhyme News! Year 7 or Drama Club SOW

advertisement
WHO’S CHANGING THE MOVEMENT?
• Good for observation skills and physical control. Students stand in a circle; one
student leaves the room. The teacher assigns a group leader, who begins a
simple repetitive movement for the class to copy.
• The student outside stands in the centre of the circle and has to guess who
the group leader is. The group leader has to keep subtly changing their
movements and the class technically will all copy.

NUN’S IN THE MONASTERY!
Key skills:
Staying in role
Focus
• Students stand in a circle with hands in ‘nun’ prayer position; everyone must
have straight faces. Person A starts, they need to make eye contact with
someone (B) and cross the circle to them. ‘A’ says ‘This is a sad and solemn
day brother/sister’ ‘B’ replies ‘Thank you brother/sister’. ‘B’ then takes over
and starts.
• However if someone laughs they are out, that includes anyone else in the
circle who laughs.
• Students they can say, sing, and dance, the line in any way they want! They
must not touch the other student; the reply must remain the same. The
object of the game is to maintain a straight face and to make each other
laugh.
MAIN TASK
• Today you are going to focus on creating headlines for your news
programme
1. Working on your own come up with 3, 4 or 5 silly or fun or serious
headline ideas for an anchor person – write these in your books
HEADLINE IDEAS
• Breaking news – young girl found guilty of breaking and entering,
stealing the bear’s porridge and extensive property damage, more
on this story later
• In other news – the wolf proclaims his innocence, with a plea of
temporary insanity brought on by extreme hunger and the smell of
bacon
• We will also hear from our roving reporter, who will be asking
“how do you put humpty back together again?”
• But first, the gruesome and completely true story of how a young
girl was kidnapped and forced to cook and clean for 7 dwarfs
MAIN TASK
• Today you are going to focus on creating headlines for your news
programme
1. Working on your own come up with 3, 4 or 5 silly or fun or serious
headline ideas for an anchor person – write these in your books
2. Working with a partner – share your headline ideas with each other then
choose your favourite 4 or 5
3. Create a scene with 2 anchor people –
• Introduce and welcome
• Present headlines
• Use dramatic voices
• Completely serious, no matter how silly the headlines are.
Challenge:- choose 1 of your
headlines and create 3 freeze
frames to show the story
Aspire:- add in mime and
movement to transition from 1
image to the next.
PAUSE AND DISCUSS
• Why is it important to stay in role?
•
•
•
•
Audience engagement
To show a character clearly
To communicate something to the audience – a theme or emotion etc.
Often things are more funny for the audience if the actors are serious
• You have to remember that what you are doing is not for you, it is
for the audience.

differences between the script and prose

What are the most obvious differences
between the two examples?
ZOMBIES
• Players start in a circle and one person is chosen to be
the ‘zombie.’
• The zombie ‘A’ makes eye contact and begins walking
towards another player ‘B’ with his/her hands out in
front of them. If A reaches B, B is out.
• Players can stop the zombie by calling out the name of
the zombie before the zombie gets to them.
• Then it is B’s turn to become the zombie and pick
another person to walk towards!

that subject.
With your partner, label yourselves A and B…
A, you will start first - you will be given a topic and have to name something
related to that topic.
B, you then reply with another word related to the topic.
Keep going until one of you hesitates or repeats a word.
YOUR FIRST TOPIC IS…
• Types of sport
NEXT TOPIC…
• Types of food
NEXT TOPIC…
• Things that are hot!
FINAL TOPIC…
• Things you find in a forest
