Tips and Tricks for Squid Dissection Day! Materials needed: - Enough equid for every 2 students to share one, same for the number of trays - LOTS of paper towels (put these over the trays to make clean up easier) - Dissection scissors - enough for one pair of scissors per pair of students - Tweezers for each pair of students - Aprons and goggles are mandatory, but gloves are optional - Dissection handout/pictures (Katie should be able to find from last year) Tips: - Make sure at least one of the students per pair of students is comfortable with dissection and is not squeamish - TAKE 2 CLASS PERIODS (have 2 6th grades in the class at once) → talk to Mrs. Koesters to see what she thinks (this year’s class might be too big!) - Have a clear procedure that you go over the class period the day before (students should know the expectations/guidelines at all times), especially what students should do when they finish - Defrost squid beginning at 7:30 → or earlier if you get to school early! - Create a seating chart - Bring in big trash can from Dionel’s room - Open the back door if it gets too smelly! - Mrs. Grimes has a stuffed squid she could bring in if you want!
