Defining Criticism, Theory and Literature
LESSON OVERVIEW: This lesson presents the learners the meaning of criticism, literary theory and
literature. It also introduces the reading process along with literary theory, and the functions of literature
and literary theory.
DESIRED LEARNING OUTCOMES: At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:
a. define literary criticism, literary theory, literature and identify its purposes;
b. differentiate significant terms related to literary criticism and
c. show interest in acquiring a deeper understanding of texts through literary criticism.
