language and technology

Background
Technology is the application of knowledge to the practical aims of human life or to changing and
manipulating the human environment. Technology includes the use of materials, tools, techniques, and
sources of power to make life easier or more pleasant and work more productive. Whereas science is
concerned with how and why things happen, technology focuses on making things happen. ( Brittanica
Dictionary)
Technology change the life of human in the past years. Technology influence the sectors of society such
as transportation, health, business and communication. The main purpose of technology is to enchance
the use of communication in our world. Technology connects the countries in the world.Through
technology the use of language in communication is extend in virtual world. Language is a form of
communication which connects the people in the world and with the influence of technology language
has reached the world. (EA tech Community)
McLuhan stated that language is an extension of human needs and activities. This means that extension
occurs when mankind uses the something to extend the range of human mind and body to connect and
build relationships. Mankind extension especially technology extension helps the human to innovate.
Humans are obsessed with extension that is why we keep on digging new things out of our mind and
that makes the technology and language extend.
The Collins Dictionary defines language as a communication system made up of a group of written and
sound symbols that people of a region or country use for writing or talking. On the other hand, sending
as well as receiving messages, either by verbal or non-verbal methods, equates to communication.
In communication, people exchange information or messages through various means. It could be
verbally, non-verbal actions, graphical and written representations like maps, charts, drawings or
infographics, or through signals and signs.
Language, on the other hand, plays an essential role in the communication process. People around the
world use a specific language to communicate, exhibiting the fact that language and communication are
intertwined, which is a reason why some people fail to see the difference between the two.
Creatures living on earth developed their own way of imparting their thoughts and emotions to other
creatures. However, only human beings enjoy the ability to utilize language and words to provide
particular meanings. This is what separates humans from animals.
Body
Technology influence the language and vice versa. One of this influences is the development of
transportation which let the people go around the world and spread or use language of one society or
region to other regions. Technology makes the language use in an extreme power and enchance the
knowledge of human living in a society about the language that is used in the world.
Since technology means to extend the reach of a man and help the human to be connected to one
another then it has a relationship with the language. The evolution of language means evolution of
technology. Language and technology enable us to sort the thing that human need and activities. For
example the use of ships to travel and deliver the goods around the world and technology needs to be
enchance and language is a way to make the technology in ships enchance. Language and technology
wants to innovate the world for the common good.
This uses one kind of technology (radio communication) to support use of language in conversations in
an adapted form of international English, that pass on information derived from other technologies
(radar, weather-forecasting systems), to the users of yet another set of technologies (the pilots of
shipyards).
We may think that most of the technology or appliances that is invented in tge the past years had
something to do with the development of communication and language. The development of
technology in language is the outmost priority of the innovation. The inventors of technology always
think on the new appliances that helps the people communicate and have something to do with the
language activity around the world. This development is listed in the history, here are the examples of
inventions of technology that enchance the use of language.

The first gramophone or phonograph recordings were made to capture the spoken voice. Yet in
time, this technology would emerge as especially well suited to recording musical performances
for later playback. (We might add that Edison's idea for recording sound gained massively when
it was used in conjunction with Marconi's idea of radio broadcasting: the sound recordings made
music affordable to a wide audience, but the playing of recordings on radio gave the music a
reach that is almost ubiquitous.)
Text messaging is an adaptation of the idea of mobile phone designers to use a simple text
display to give the user information about the functions of the handset. Since this information
was being displayed on a phone, it soon became apparent that one could use it for entering free
text, that the user could transmit, by using the same underlying technology as the voice calls and that these packets of information would be far smaller, and less costly to transmit. What
the service providers could anticipate generally (but almost certainly without foreseeing the
scale of its later popularity) was that users would like to be able to do this. (The assumption was
more that we would use the technology for broadcast messages, such as weather or traffic
information, than for personal interactions.)
Calling and chatting is one of the development and innovation of mobile phone inventors. In this
technology they let the people in different region communicat. Transferring of information and
knowledge. This technology uses internet connection which is the one of the innovation in
technology that is inclined with the use of language.
All kinds of circumstances can affect the way we use language. Using technology may do this - as we
may note from the way that some speakers react to a journalist's microphone, or an invitation to leave a
message on a telephone answering machine. But we should not suppose that, in the absence of such
obvious technology, people speak in a neutral and "natural" way. Whereas in the past, some kinds of
formal or rhetorical speaking were regarded as meritorious, and social conversation less well regarded,
so now we can make the opposite mistake, and assume that spontaneous speaking of an unstructured
kind, using many non-standard terms and constructions, is somehow more natural or authentic (and
worthy of study) than more controlled or self-conscious utterance, using standard forms.
Technology allow us to know information that is needed in our life. The use of TV and radio broadcast
and the use of magazines and news papers are very helpful. And as years of developing the technical it
is always related with the language (Moore 2002).
Since 19th century the way language use in technology is widely transformed. From the use of paper
and pen to the use of internet and other gadget to deliver messages. The new technology connects the
people and the country.
Alexander Graham Bell is one of the people who revolutionize the use of language in communication
through technology. Over the past century, advances in technology have replaced the heavy hardware
and metal wiring of the original design with lightweight microcircuitry. These advancements have also
allowed for the transition from landlines to wireless, freeing people to communicate from remote
locations. All over the world, millions of people can talk to each other, expanding businesses and
improving relationships that might not otherwise have survived across long distances. Telephones also
allow for instant communication, and new technology integrates video and Internet.( Brittanica
Dictionary)
The creation of the Internet allowed computer networks from around the globe to network with each
other, giving individuals access to an incredible wealth of information. In 2010, about half of the world's
population has access to the Internet, growing from only 6 percent of the population in 2000.
Email, social networks, newsgroups and video transmission have connected the world like never before.
Privacy concerns have arisen with the proliferation of the Internet, especially with government
monitoring and certain social networking sites, but the Internet has woven itself into the fabric of
society and business. High-speed connections allow for an immense amount of information to be
transferred in seconds.
The development of technology also helps the corrections of spellings and grammars of
professionals.Different technologies influence spelling in different ways. Spell-checking tools in
application software enable the user to eliminate non-standard forms, though they do not show where
a writer uses a standard form of a lexeme other than the one he or she intends. So, for instance, one
finds increasingly commonly that "lead" (the present tense and infinitive form of the verb "to lead") is
written in contexts requiring the past participle "led" (possibly by confusion with its homophone noun
"lead", as in the heavy metal). It may be that reliance on these tools, too, leads some people to learn
less for themselves about standard forms, in the same way that reliance on the calculator has
apparently led some people to care less about mental arithmetic or learning multiplication tables.
Innovation in technology helps the students to learn the correct spelling and grammar of the words they
need to learn. The rise of technology helps the education such as helping the students to learn in a most
easiest way.
Technology is now the most important communication tool for organizations. Technology has
transformed how organizations conduct public relations and marketing, including how they interact with
the media and stakeholders. Graduates with a master’s degree in communication gain skills to guide and
perfect an organization’s use of communication technology to better achieve goals.
Social media has made public relations (PR) more challenging, but it has also broadened an
organization’s accessibility. Public relations managers must be diligent in the way that communication is
used. In the past, high-ranking officials in an organization may have left most communication outside of
the business to a PR representative. Now each time senior managers interact with stakeholders, the
media and the public, they are vulnerable to misrepresentation. With the proliferation of smart devices
and real-time reporting, PR professionals have to educate and monitor everyone in an organization.
They must also develop crisis communication plans when embarrassing and negative news goes viral
over social media.
Implications
Technology and language relationship is an unbreakable bond. Technology strengthen the use of
language and extend its capacity to connect a region from other regions. The use of technology to
achieve the better relationship of the countries around the world is very visible. This helps us to be more
enlighten that innovation in technology that focuses in language helps us.
The process of translating an idea or invention into a good or service that creates value or for which
customers will pay. To be called an innovation, an idea must be replicable at an economical cost and
must satisfy a specific need. Innovation involves deliberate application of information, imagination and
initiative in deriving greater or different values from resources, and includes all processes by which new
ideas are generated and converted into useful products. In business, innovation often results when
ideas are applied by the company in order to further satisfy the needs and expectations of the
customers.
Technology innovation covers innovation derived from research and technology developments that are
independent of product and service initiatives.
Conclusion
Technology innovation covers innovation derived from research and technology developments that are
independent of product and service initiatives. Technology improve the learners learning skill in learning
the language and communication.
In this early part of the 21st century the range of technologies available for use in language learning and
teaching has become very diverse and the ways that they are being used in classrooms all over the
world, as illustrated in this book, have become central to language practice.
Technology as defined as the branch of knowledge that deals with the creation and use of technical
means and their interrelation with life, society, and the environment, drawing upon such subjects as
industrial arts, engineering, applied science, and pure science. And language as a system of conventional
spoken, manual (signed), or written symbols by means of which human beings, as members of a social
group and participants in its culture, express themselves. The functions of language include
communication, the expression of identity, play, imaginative expression, and emotional release. Both
has a goal to connect and innovate human life. Technology and language goals is to extend the outmost
power of human to connect and build relationships to one another. The innovation that the inventors of
technology that helps the language power to spread is the purpose of technology. Connection is the
power of technology and language.
