Activating Prior Learning: In order to understand the past, you have to look back and revisit it. Your task is to fill in the KWL chart and list down what you have known, what are the things that you would like to know and what you have learned about your history of Science & Technology from prehistoric period to the cradle of science. What I already Know Science and Technology plays an important role in the development of a country. Technology is older than science. Developments also have consequences, particularly in our environment, such as climate change and pollution. Renewable Energy is the best choice because it is economically viable, sustainable and environmentally-safe. Science and Technology have many impacts in our society, particularly in the field of health, agriculture, communications and transportations. What I Want to know How does science and technology developed during the Prehistoric era? How do the different civilizations contributes to the development of science and technology? What is the significance of Cradle of Civilization? Where does the first civilization arise? What is the importance of understanding the development of science and technology in these countries/civilizations? What I have Learned Prehistoric Era or Stone Age is divided into two period: Paleolithic and Neolithic. The Cradles of Civilization are Fertile Crescent, Indus Valley, Yellow River, Central Andes and Mesoamerica. Several Empires arose in American civilization: Incan, Aztec, and Mayans. Asia, the biggest continent contributes the most in the development of science and technology. Science and Technology evolves during the course of time and became necessary in the development of the society. 1. Why do you think the three ancient societies considered as the cradle of Civilization? Explain your answer. The five ancient societies are entitled as the cradle of civilization because these are the first areas where humans developed a systematic complex way of living, abandoning the nomadic lifestyle. Early people settled in these areas building permanent homes and cities. Their systematic way of civilization comprises different mores and folkways, a system of leadership, agriculture, domestication, and labor. This systematic approach to civilization helps early humans discover different knowledge based on nature and invent various technologies that will aid in their daily activity. Civilizations also serve as the home of the great discoveries in fields of science and technology. 2. What is the most notable contribution in science of Africa? Explain why. The development of geometry is the most significant contribution of Africa in the field of science. Early Egyptians utilize the geometry concepts in maintaining the arrangement of their farmlands that lies along the River of Nile. These concepts were used today in building homes and different infrastructure. Their creation of a dam that diverted water from the river is one of the widely used infrastructures that are very useful today, especially here in the Philippines. This creation provides water, power, and irrigation, which is essential in our society. 3. Describe the Aztec civilization’s contribution to science and technology. Aztec civilization is one of the most advanced and powerful civilizations in history. Their mandatory inclusive education is the first in the world; this unique education system that knows no social standing, gender, or age leads to the different useful inventions in their time. Their development of Chinampa serves as one of the layouts in agricultural farming today. This technology divides the farming land into quadrants and encloses it with canals, preventing the different toxics or waste from affecting the plants' growth. Canoe's invention paved the way for better transportation maximizing their geographical location as waters surround the city. This amazing technology helps people transport their goods without exerting much work compared to using the wheeled carts on lands. 4. Describe the location of the two Americas. The two civilizations that arose from America's land are the Central Andes civilization and the Mesoamerica civilization. Central Andes civilization is found at the center of the Andean Mountain in South America. Incan empire arises in this region, which is now Peru, Ecuador, Bolivia, and Chile. The Mesoamerica civilization is located in Central America; this region today is known as Mexico, spreading across the areas of Guatemala and Honduras. This civilization gave birth to the most renowned societies of the world, the Mayan and Aztec Empire. These empires serve as the home of advanced development in the fields of science and technology.
