In the beginning was the Word
in principio erat Verbum
and the word was with God
et Verbum erat apud Deum
and the word was God.
et Deus erat Verbum
The same was in the beginning with God.
hoc erat in principio apud Deum
All things were made by Him
omnia per ipsum facta sunt
and without Him was made nothing
et sine ipso factum est nihil
that was made.
quod factum est
In Him was life
in ipso vita erat
and the life was the light of men
et vita erat lux hominum
and the light shineth in the darkness
et lux in tenebris lucet
and the darkness did not comprehend it.
et tenebrae eam non conprehenderunt
There was a man sent from God,
fuit homo missus a Deo
whose name was John.
cui nomen erat Johannes
This man came for a witness
hic venit in testimonium
to give testimony of the light,
ut testimonium perhiberet de lumine
that all men might believe through him.
ut omnes crederent per illum
