Ms. Gilbert brings her 10 year child in for their 6 month 1cleaning. The cleaning is performed by
2a licensed, professional auxiliary in dentistry who is both an oral health educator and clinician.
As part of the appointment an 3x-ray was obtained that captured a view of the entire dentition
with the surrounding structures on one film. The dentist sees the patient after the cleaning and
reports that there is no evidence of 4microbial bacterial destruction or necrosis of teeth. The
dentist does discuss the need to refer the patient to a 5dental specialist who corrects
malocclusion and improper jaw alignment. The patient’s 6mandible is located behind its
normal position in relation to the maxillae. There is concern regarding problems with 7gritting
or grinding teeth together. There is also concern that 8the mandibular teeth are too close
together. Also, the maxillary cuspid is 9situated sideways to the adjacent teeth and occlusal
plane, and it is covered by tissue and/or bone. The dentist says the specialist will explore the
10surgical removal of the cuspids.
