Outcomes assessed:
P1.1:
P1.2:
P2.1:
P2.2:
describes the nature of information processes and information technology
classifies the functions and operations of information processes and information technology
identifies and describes the information processes within an information system
recognizes and explains the interdependence between each of the information processes
Project Instructions:
Select an information system that makes some use of computer technology and prepare a wordprocessed report of at least two A4 pages of your chosen system.
You should identify and describe:
 The purpose of the system – what it does, how it is used
(2 marks)
 The system environment – where the system is used, what other information systems (if
any) it relies on or that depend on it
(2 marks)
 The system participants and users – their role(s) in the system
(3 marks)
 The data entered into the information system and the information the system provides
(3 marks)
 The information technology (e.g. hardware/software) used by the system
(3 marks)
 The information processes being carried out by the system
(3 marks)
 The interdependence between each of the information processes in the system (4 marks)
Some questions to be considered: Can any of the processes be skipped? Can a process be repeated?
How is one process dependent on another? Does the process follow the order?
Your report may include graphics such as images and clip art. However, the text part of the report
must be the equivalent of an A4 sheet of paper (typed with size 11/12 font).
As part of the project requirement, you will present your findings to the class. You can create a
presentation of your project.
(10 marks)
Some possible systems could include: the library electronic catalogue and loans/circulation system, a
checkout at a supermarket, an automatic teller machine, school reporting system, etc.
