OPTIMISING PERFORMANCE
Quality ensurance
Wilhelmsen Ships Service (WSS) recommend a
monthly visual inspection and a yearly inspection
of all suits by using the portable test kit to
observe any defects or quantity or functional
noncompliance. These best practices will ensure
product quality is maintained and product is fit for
use when needed in case of emergency.
Visual inspection
1.Check the condition of the bag for damage,
dirt or unreadable instructions, check if the
description outside complies with the size and
suit type inside.
2.Take out the suit from the bag and place it
on a flat clean table, make sure the suit is dry
both from inside and outside.
3.Check for missing parts such as whistle, snap
hook, buddy line, wax for zipper, emergency
light (only for pillow type 7P version), and
replace if necessary only with original parts
from manufacturer. Visually check the suit
inside and outside for damages, damages as
punctures, tears, ripped neoprene – if found
please return this for service to your local WSS
service station at your nearest opportunity
4.Check the watertight metal zipper for damage.
Remove all dirt or debris from the zipper. Use
the wax stick provided to lubricate the zipper
for smooth operation
5.Check the connection joints of the buoyancy
pillow to the suit and also leg fastener straps,
if founds damaged please return this for
service to your local WSS service station at
your nearest opportunity
On board pressure test
Introduction
This device is used for air tightness / pressure testing & inspection for immersion suit to
check for leakages.
Product structure as follow:
Plastic box
Stable and pressing boards
Charging hose & ball valve assembly
0 ~ 4KPa pressure gauge assembly
Repair kit
1pc glue
1pc brush
1pc wax
1pc operating instruction manual
5pcs CR repair pieces
1pc big spare piece for stable board
2pcs small spare piece for pressing board
Soapy water test method
1.Zip the suit fully and put it on clean and flat surface / table with its face upwards. Ensure
the flat surface is clear of any debris and sharp objects as they will damage the suit
2.Insert the stable board into the head and make sure the quick connector and threaded
port are free to access from the face.
3.Secure the pressing board on the stable board by wing nuts and make sure all face
neoprene material around the face is fully pressed by pressing board with no gaps.
4.Insert the pressure gauge assembly and charging hose & ball valve assembly into
the quick connector of pressing board, connect another side of charging hose with
air supply.
5.Open the ball valve slowly and watch the pressure gauge, raise pressure slowly and
close the ball valve when the pressure approaches 1.0 to 1.4 Kpa, then keep the
pressure stable.
6.Cover each seams or closures of the suit with soapy water, if leaks are revealed by the
formation of the soap air bubbles, the leak areas should be marked for repairing.
7.After inspection, close the ball valve, pull out the quick connector of pressure gauge and
charging hose from pressing board, loose the nuts, take out the pressing board, open
the zipper, and take out the stable board.
Please note: Hold the quick connector of pressure gauge and charging hose by
forefinger and thumb, push the connector inside first then you can pull them out from
the pressing board. Release the air pressure slowly in the suit and then hang the suit
to dry.
8.Wash all tested suits according to the washing mark, avoid dry cleaning or chemicals
for cleaning the suit as the lining may come off if using the wrong solvents for cleaning,
dry it naturally but not in heavy sunshine or in the proximity of heaters or UV supplying
machines. Hang it for drying on a wide stable garment hanger if available.
Repair
It is recommended that the suit be sent for inspection to your local WSS service station for
checking if the suit has been repaired on board. The repair kit is supplied with the portable
test kit so that suit can be made functional and can be used in case of emergency. In order
to be sure that the suit retains its functional performance after on board emergency repair,
please get the suit inspected by your local WSS service station.
1.Repair the leakage suit after dry, please use the spare repair pieces for repair.
2.Spread the glue twice evenly on the leak area of the internal of immersion suit over
25mm extended from the leak point in all directions, then cut a suitable patch with 5mm
less than the area spread on the suit in all directions and spread the glue twice evenly
on the patch, under normal temperature and normal humidity, the interval between the
two spreading is about 4 to 5 mins.
3.Stick the patch onto the leak area after 4 to 5mins and press them by the roller carefully.
3.Stick the patch onto the leak area after 4 to 5mins and press them by the roller carefully.
4.Do the water tightness test again.
5.Check all reflective tape is in place and glued tightly, they may damage after testing use
or long time storage, in this case we recommend repair or renew by service station for
best adhesion.
6.Switch light on and off and check the validity of the light. If the light is expired change it
to a new one.
7.Check that the whistle is in place and working properly.
8.If the suit is dirty, wash it according to the wash mark, avoid dry cleaning or chemicals
for cleaning the suit as the lining may come off if using the wrong solvents for cleaning,
dry it naturally but not in heavy sunshine or in the proximity of heaters or UV supplying
machines. Hang it for drying on a wide stable garment hanger until it is really dry.
9.Lubricate the front and back of the zipper with the wax and slide it up and down twice.
Do not use any oils which may contain acid and damage the zipper after a while.
Packing
After the checking procedure, lay the suit on a flat clean table, rolling starts from the legs,
arms are crossed over the breast, left the lifting belt and also the metal zipper in open
position.
Emergency light fitting
Emergency light product number 777423.
1. Confirm the right product.
2.Test the light is functioning properly by switching it on and then switching it off after
10 seconds. Press the manual test button both for switching ON and OFF the light.
3.Insert the securing clip of the emergency light into the emergency light securing
webbing / loop located on the left side chest on the immersion suit.

Donning
Time is a valuable asset in emergency cases, we recommend practicing the donning of
suits regularly for all crewmembers.
To avoid damage of suits during training, we recommend having dedicated training suits on
board.
Step in the suit with legs
first, no need to remove
shoes or clothing.
Don lower body part.
Tighten the strap around
the ankle.
Insert both arms first.
Put on the hood, fully close
the zip, and squat to remove
excess air.
Close face flap and prepare
to jump in water feet first.
When you are in the water
Swim if possible always on the back. Only for reaching life rafts or other objects turn
yourself.
If other persons are near you in water connect yourself to them with the buddy line, this will
increase the chance for the rescue team to find you.
