Data Management Group Project This math project will involve the skills that you have learned in Data Management. In groups your job will be to create a survey/census in order to collect data about a specific group on a specific topic or question that is meaningful to the lives of RJ Lee students. Your project will include: 1. Proposal – (up to 250 words) Include the following: • The question/topic you to explore • Your purpose for exploring that question • How you plan to get your data (Tally Chart, Frequency table, other…) • How you will graph your data you collect and why you chose the specific graph (check out my graph handout) Letter: Include a letter to the people that you plan to survey • This letter should the parts above and explain what you are going to do with the collected data. Please also include a sentence that people’s names will not be used for the data. 2. Survey This will be the questions you plan to ask to get the data you need • Please have it typed out before you give it to people • If you are planning to survey (ask) a class, please make sure that you have permission from me and the other teacher(s) to do so ahead of time 3. Results • Your results should be collected and organized into charts or tables • What can you conclude from your data collection? • What do your results tell you? • What do you plan to do with your information? • Was there any bias? • Is your data what you thought it would look like? • Include any ways to improve your survey 4. Graphs • From your data tables, you will need to choose the graph(s) you think are appropriate and will display your data in the most effective way. You can make them by hand or EXCEL 5. Presentation • You will have to conduct a 5 minute (maximum) presentation outlining your project and how/why the information you collected is useful to RJ Lee students. You will be working in groups of 2-3. You will be given a mark on each of the 5 parts of this project. Each step of this project will be given an approximate due date to keep you within the timeline for the entire project. Group Members are expected to work together. It is the group’s responsibility to make sure each person helps with the assignment.
