Activity for identifying perspectives: Learning Objective: The objective is to gage the students’ level of understanding of identifying perspectives along with whether their reasoning aligns with their choice and the level of their justifications. Further, some students may classify certain issues under two perspectives giving valid reasoning. These would be learners with a higher level of understanding and/or exposure. This assessment will also help understand how comfortable learners are, while sharing their ideas within their individual groups and then presenting them in front of the class. Activity: Identifying Perspectives • • • • • • • • 1. Make chits and put them in a bowl (number of chits should equal number of students). 2. Each chit should briefly outline an issue that is prevalent either on the personal, local, regional, national or global scale/level. 3. Examples of issues: Current events between India and Pakistan regarding the Pulwama terrorist attack Climate change Asiatic Lion: an endemic species to India is endangered China’s One Child Policy to curb population Nirbhaya’s rape case, India Youth violence in Chicago, USA Freshwater scarcity Brexit 4. Students will be divided into groups of 3. Each group is asked to pick a chit, discuss for 15 minutes and write down whether they think the issue is personal, local, national, regional or global. They are further asked to justify their classification. 5. Each team presents why they feel that particular issue is at particular level. Students from other teams could give their views on all the issues being discussed.
