Theoretical Framework
This study focuses on the strategies to prevent the mathematics anxiety of the students. This math
anxiety can affect their performance and ability in Mathematics. It is conducted so that students
can reduce their anxiety in mathematics and will improve their math achievement.
Higbee and Thomas (1999)
During pandemic, math anxiety of the students is being developed and it has a strong impact on
their math performance and achievement. Reducing mathematics anxiety of the students during a
pandemic can help to improve their math achievement and avoid its outcome failures; negative
math experience, math avoidance, poor preparations, and poor math performance.
1. What is the results of the Mathematics Anxiety Rating Scale (MARS) of the students?
2. What are the results of the Mathematics Achievement Test (MAT) of the students?
3. Is there a significant relationship between the results of Mathematics Anxiety Rating
Scale (MARS) and Mathematics Achievement Test (MAT) of the students?
The theoretical framework underlying the research study is based on constructivist learning
theory developed by Lev Vigotsky. It is because understanding the foundation for effective
mathematics instruction is important in educating teachers on how to better prepare students in
the content area as well as help reduce some of their own anxieties or concerns regarding
mathematics instruction. The constructivist approach to mathematics has shown itself to
create the strong foundation for mathematics learning. Constructivism build the expectation that
student learning is an interdependent process in which only the learner can actively construct
personal meaning of the knowledge being acquired based on his or her cognitive developmental
stages and his or her socio-cultural experiences.
